[MLO] Re: MLO'ers - Looking for volunteers

2015-08-26 Thread pottster
One volunteer so far (thanks Adam). Just looking for one more if anyone can
help and is interested. Either way I'll post a link to our Blab when it's
scheduled so people can watch or participate if they want to.

Fellow MLO devotees, I'm looking for two or three people to participate in
an online video chat about MLO.

 *BACKGROUND*
There is a new website (still in beta) which is taking the Social Media
world by storm at the moment called Blab. It's basically like a series of
public Google Hangouts sessions but what makes it different is: -

- they have absolutely nailed it technically (unlike Google Hangouts)
- they have the format just right
- it's very easy for newcomers

It's early days but it has a lot of potential. Have a look yourself
 https://blab.im

The reason for my request is twofold; firstly, I wanted to host my own
Blab to test it out technically, and secondly, I thought it would be fun to
chat with people who use MLO.

 *WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW*

- the chats are public, so anyone can watch and listen
- the chats can be recorded although I will not be recording this one
as it's just a test

 *WHAT YOU NEED*

- same set up as for Skype video calling i.e. reasonable
webcam/mic/speakers/headset - having said that a lot of people are using
smartphones successfully
- reasonable internet connection
- willingness to discuss anything MLO (hopefully that's a given) and
try something new

If you want to look at a Blab I was just viewing which may be relevant and
interesting to MLO users look here: - Productivity Blab
https://goo.gl/udsgt8 (I contributed a few comments under the handle
 pottyschap)

If you're interested in participating, message me privately. Any
 questions/comments reply normally.

No disclaimer required - I'm nothing to do with the site, just wanted to
 try it out!

 Thanks guys.

 Pottster (Ken)

[MLO] Sharing a branch (eg. with an assistant) - What is the current advice?

2015-08-26 Thread Joel Azaria
Hey all,

So I searched the group and posts are either a few years back or not
conclusive. Want to see what is the current advice for this.

I just hired a virtual assistant and need to share 1 or 2 specific branches
of my MLO file with her. What is the best way to do this?

She works via remote desktop to a machine on my local network so I'm a
candidate for any of the tech options (LAN share/SMB, FTP, CloudSync, etc.)
I just don't know which is advised/best for this.

   - She should have full read/write access to any branches I share.
   - Her changes and mine should sync both ways.
   - She should absolutely not have any access to any areas not explicitly
   shared with her.
   - Bonus points if this potentially can scale to a 2nd va (3rd user) or
   more.

thanks,

Create a shared network folder (you will probably need that to share
documents anyway), put a data file with only the branch on the network
folder and create a sync profile for this data file on both MLO
instances. Under Branch sync, select the branch you want to share.

[MLO] How to choose fields for XML export?

2015-08-26 Thread Jennifer Lefeaux
Hi all!

Is there a way to choose the fields that are part of the XML export for
Excel?

I would like to have Is folder as an export field.

Thanks,
Jennifer L.

[MLO] Re: How to choose fields for XML export?

2015-08-26 Thread pottster
Hi Jennifer,

I think the export is for all fields by default. If you export and look at
the XML Source Map (in Excel) Is Folder is there. I should say that I'm
way outside my comfort zone in this area - I'd love to know more about
working with this data extract - I think there is a lot of potential here.
How are you using the extracted data?

Re: [MLO] Sharing a branch (eg. with an assistant) - What is the current advice?

2015-08-26 Thread Joel Azaria
Thanks Cristoph. I considered this but MLO help file does not have good
things to say about this 'sync' (not sure it even is a sync - help file
says the entire file is transferred each time so not sure if it's a sync or
clobber)
Also, it's not automatic. Manual 'sync' only.

From the help file:

this type of synchronization is not recommended anymore since entire file
transferred on each sync.

Use MLO Cloud instead since it works better sending only updates
to/from the Cloud and handling conflicts.

[MLO] Projects View is showing me projects that have been started but telling me they aren't.

2015-08-26 Thread Holmes245
I'm going through MLO and basically housecleaning, getting rid of old
tasks, change my set up around and reset all views to start fresh. I
created a tab and used the preset Projects view. However, there's one
problem: it's showing me three projects (the only three I have marked as
projects in MLO which is correct) but they're coming up under the grouping
'Not Started' but they have been started with tasks having been checked
off. It should come up under the listing 'Started'.

Is this a bug, a known bug and if so, how long as it been here? Anyone else
experiencing this problem? Since I just reset the views, this should be the
preset view that comes in MLO. I haven't done anything to it.

Anyway, I can still use the list, no problem there but annoying that it's
not accurate in the status of the project.

Joel
