an workaround is to group by date.
then, just expand the Sunday group to see Sunday's tasks.

Is there a way to disable outlook sync? I found a post here from 2016 where
it says "no, doesn't work". I can't believe there's no way to achieve this
in 2018.

Do you mean a way to *en*able Outlook sync? I believe that Microsoft have
broken the links back to MS Outlook. There was a post, somewhere, in which
we were told how to fix Outlook sync - You have to edit Outlook's settings
