You must use innodb or bdb tables for transaction safe.
Both may normaly compilled on Mac OS

people have written quite a lot of compiling MySQL on
OS X. It should be possible. Below is an ad of a CD
which contains the OS X version. Obviously the
producers of the CD have been able to compile.
