Turned out I had been mucking about with the check_nrpe command descriptor, as during my testing I had just been checking the nrpe version (Im implementing this on Solaris, AIX, HPUX, debian, rhel, CentOS, zlinux, suse and windows) and when it had more arguments, the nrpe checks in the nagios
