BUT, now I see tonnes of performance data in the

how come they don't get deleted?
is there a switch somewhere that needs to be added?
is it a chown/chmod issue?

thanks!

2011-06-14 Thread Manish Kumar
I have successfully configured pnp4nagios and it was running fine with my
nagios-3.2.3 also showing pop up graphs and all, but sometime ago it
automatically stopped and there is no further graphing of performance
parameters. On looking in the log it says exiting... couldn't find the
Nagios environment. Have anyone faced this problem and can help me.

Hi,

Ok, good shout.

I've install the latest version.

The config check page looks ok but I'm getting errors where is isn't any rrd
data yet.

How long does it take to start producing this data when in sync mode?

Can I force it along quicker so that I know everything working?

Thanks again

When I do http://servername/Nagios/pnp my first error is 'Hostname is not set'

I've looked and sure enough there are no rrd files in the folder, plus there is
no entry in the log file.

To me this suggests that Nagios isn't firing the command
'process-service-perfdata' after completing a check.

My commands.cfg file looks correct;

define command {
 command_nameprocess-service-perfdata

}

define command {
 command_nameprocess-host-perfdata

}

And so is my Nagios.cfg file;

process_performance_data=1

host_perfdata_command=process-host-perfdata
service_perfdata_command=process-service-perfdata

these tow are the only things I've changed from the default install.

Any ideas what I've missed??

Any tips on how I can drill down further to see what's not happing and why?

Re: [Nagios-users] pnp4nagios Nagios

2011-05-13 Thread Martin Hugo
Hmm, don't know why it is not showing up. I know that I have to add the
host-pnp and srv-pnp templates to my hosts and services to generate graphs. I
typically add host-pnp to every host definition and then just add srv-pnp to
every service check that I want graphed. So a windows server would be use
windows-server,host-pnp and my switches are use generic-switch,host-pnp.

I also made all the edits to the Nagios.cfg and commands file as documented in
the Nagios Manual.

I am running on CentOS installed from source.

Re: [Nagios-users] pnp4nagios?

2011-04-14 Thread Jeremiah D. Jester
Thanks Benny.

I've configured pnp and it has been successfully graphing data since the actual
installation. However, I have nagios perfdata logs from the past year
(host_perfdata.log, service_perfdata.log) that are not being parsed that I want
to be included.

Currently my nagios.cfg is using the following commands:

define command{
command_nameprocess-service-perfdata
command_line /usr/bin/perl
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/libexec/process_perfdata.pl -d
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/service-perfdata.log
}

define command{
command_nameprocess-host-perfdata
   command_line /usr/bin/perl
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/libexec/process_perfdata.pl -d
/usr/local/pnp4nagios/var/perfdata/host-perfdata.log
}

Is there a certain method, configuration I need to follow if I want to include
this historical data?

Thanks,
JJ

H... RRD databases expect to be updated in a sequential
fashion, on regular-ish intervals. I'm not sure that you can go
back and add the past data.

I will defer to those on the list that are more familiar with

I should have been more specific.

I just want to include all historical data from nagios into pnp. It’s only
showing data from the install date forward.

Thanks,JJ

What 'issues' are you seeing? I've noticed ubuntu and apt can mark some
dependancies as unused and safe for removal depending on how you installed
nagios in the first place. That led to a bit of hair pulling on my end

that should be an RRD issue, not pnp4nagios at all.
if you would like to include the historical data, you need a process
to restore them into the RRD files.
after that pnp4nagios can show all honestly and add new data for you
from now on.

Hi - Can you elaborate? I understand you added pnp4nagios to your Gentoo box...
but... what ssi files, what pop-ups? I would read through the INSTALL file,
and/or manual/docs on the version of pnp4nagios for your specific ebuild -
There could be some small manual configuration bits you may have missed - i
know that Gentoo tends to change *lots* of things in their packages/ebuilds...
(or used to anyhow).

(You also may have luck on the Gentoo support/discussion boards, i know they
used to be quite active if no one here knows your answer).

Cheers,

I run gentoo on my server and for $dayjob I've been working with nagios
etc from source. I came across the same problem with pnp4nagios. running
'equery f pnp4nagios' which lists all the files installed as part of
that package returned no ssi files, so I just copied the file over from
the extracted source on the work server. I guess the packagers felt
people wouldn't want it as default but forgot to copy it somewhere it
could be used if they wanted it.

You'll find the source tarball in /usr/portage/distfiles

Steve.

[Nagios-users] pnp4nagios

2010-04-07 Thread Trisha Hoang
In our environment, the slaves send check results in bulk to the master,
which means that all the nagios macros associated with the results are no
longer available once reached the master. What I want to do is to install
pnp4nagios on the master so that we'll have graphs for all the results.

The problem now is how do I manually create the right syntax for the
service-perfdata file to be processed by the pnp4nagios script
process_perfdata.pl, when all the macros are not available? Perhaps if you
have a sample service-perfdata file, that would be helpful.

Why do you need the macros? All the values should be substituted before
the results are passed on, meaning your slave server should be receiving
exactly the same thing your slave did.

 I can't test this but I'm 99% sure there's no reason they shouldn't be
 available unless you've disabled macros-as-environment-variables in
 nagios.cfg. There's no distinction made between an active check and a passive
 check that I know of for this feature.

Only the used check_command is missing on the master.

This is the syntax for the service-perfdata file. Looks like the slave can
send 1) the regular format to nagios.cmd, and 2) the below format to
pnp4nagios. I think it's do-able :-).

DATATYPE::SERVICEPERFDATA   TIMET::1270684107
HOSTNAME::www157SERVICEDESC::PUPPET SERVICEPERFDATA::
SERVICECHECKCOMMAND::check_nrpe!check_file_age!259200!10800!/var/lib/puppet/state/state.yaml
HOSTSTATE::UP  HOSTSTATETYPE::HARD SERVICESTATE::OK
SERVICESTATETYPE::HARD

Thank you.

After that i restarted the apache web server using the command: service
httpd restart

Stopping httpd:[  OK  ]
Starting httpd: [Thu Mar 25 09:13:16 2010] [warn] module php5_module is
already loaded, skipping

   [  OK  ]

When i scroll to the pnp4nagios link using : http://x.x.x.x/pnp4nagios/
Here i am still seeing that the php-gd extension is not available.
Please let me know how to proceed next ?

The php-gd extension has nothing to do with apache configuration
itself. It is totally within php. Do try the following command:

rpm -q php-gd

If this doesn't give any output, it is not installed. If it does, it
must be at least of a high enough version (mine is php-gd-5.3.2 on
RHEL5). On RHEL servers, I use the remi repository to update php to a
reasonable version and install php-gd next to it:

# download the remi rpm file itself
wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi-release-5.rpm
# install the remi repo (by default disabled)
rpm -Uvh remi-release-5*.rpm
# now upgrade php and install php-gd
yum -y --enablerepo=remi install php php-gd

Afterwards, restart apache to reload the new php version and addons.
To check wether php has the gd module activated, create a simple
php-file (called eg. test.php) and put the following php code in it:

?php
phpinfo();
?

When you call this test.php from your webserver, you should find a
gd-specific section and the first line of it should say GD Support
with value enabled

Hope this helps,

Franky

You may be able to get the perfdata again by specifying a warning or
critical threshold. The code changed lately so if it doesn't work with
an older version you may want to try with 1.4.14 (the version I looked at).

Note though that check_snmp runs faster without loading any mibs, which
is an important tuning for large monitoring systems using this plugin.

Spot-on, mate. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll revamp all my checks to
use warnings, even if they don't really need them.

Now, this is odd, because it speeds things up TREMENDOUSLY with doing
things at the command line with snmpwalk and snmpget. As this is my SNMP
management machine, we have thousands of mib files being parsed before
those commands are run without specifying. So I checked:

I did each several times in a row to make sure it wasn't a fluke. At
least here, on my version, with my particular setup, specifying the mib
file the counter is coming from seems to be an extraordinary speedup.

This is very strange. I can understand that loading a single MIB is
fast, but check_snmp should force a blank mib list (-m '') when only a
numeric OID is broken. some time ago I fixed it when using multiple
numerical oids separated with commas, but this behaviour with a single
OID should be very old.

[Nagios-users] pnp4nagios, check_snmp, and the `-m' flag

2009-11-16 Thread David Krider
I have a system all setup and running with Nagios and PNP4Nagios. Some
of the SNMP checks are not making graphs for me. My general habit has
been to anchor the SNMP check with the `-m' flag on the check_snmp
command.

My command:

define command {
  command_name check_snmp
  command_line $USER1$/check_snmp -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -m $ARG1$ -o $ARG2$
}

My service:

define service {
hostgroup_name power_meters
service_description Demand KiloWatts
use snmp-service
check_command check_snmp!
EATON-PWR-MTR-MIB!.1.3.6.1.4.1.534.8.3.1.5.1.1.4.1
servicegroups power_meter_checks
}

My result:

temporary configs # /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_snmp -H 10.1.25.11 -m
EATON-PWR-MTR-MIB -o .1.3.6.1.4.1.534.8.3.1.5.1.1.4.1
SNMP OK - 19 kilo-watts |

Notice that there's no perfdata. If I leave out the `-m', I get it:

temporary configs # /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_snmp -H 10.1.25.11
-o .1.3.6.1.4.1.534.8.3.1.5.1.1.4.1
SNMP OK - 19 | iso.3.6.1.4.1.534.8.3.1.5.1.1.4.1=19

It would be nice to keep the units on these calls, just for the sake of
it, but this is what's keeping the performance data from being reported
in these instances. Just thought I'd post this to the list for future
reference. If past experience is any indication of future trending, I'll
find this through Google in about 3 years when I can't figure out why I
can't get performance data in Nagios again. ;-)

Regards,
dk

The problem is that check_snmp parses the output from snmpget and it
appears that when you load the MIB it detects the result as a string (if
you post the full debug output (-vvv switch) I will be able to confirm).

The best fix would be to use the SNMP C library instead or running
snmpget (which would be more reliable too). This is a major rewrite and
we don't have time for that right now.

 yes, absolutely NRPE can be used to collect performance data .. does
 your shell script return performance data as part of it's output? You
 should see a pipe symbol | and then metrics in the output from the

[Nagios-users] pnp4nagios over nrpe

2009-10-02 Thread Leonardo Carneiro
I'm using pnp4nagios in some local services and it's running just fine.
now i'm trying to get perfdata from a service running on a remote host,
but doing so via nrpe. the command it's a simple shell script that
checks how many files exist in a especified folder.

When i try to see the graph, the last item show me an error:

RRD
Database/usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata/gwserver01/MSG_para_o_banco.rrd
not found.

I now i could be thousand of problems. what i wanna know if is possible
to gather this kind of data via nrpe.

tks in advance and forgive me for my poor english.

yes, absolutely NRPE can be used to collect performance data .. does
your shell script return performance data as part of it's output? You
should see a pipe symbol | and then metrics in the output from the
script, e,g.

MY-CHECK - OK - Blah blah | 'metric1'=10;90;100 'metric2'=4;80;100'

hi

you create a file

Fichier check_nrpe.php
#check_command  check_nrpe!check_users!-w 3 ?c 6
#0___||
#1__||
#2__||
#
CUSTOM_TEMPLATE = 1

custom_template with 1 it s for to use the second argument : check_users
so you use check_users.php

I doubt I've remembered everything, but hopefully these notes might
help...

I downloaded the tarball drraw-2.2b2.tar.gz from
http://web.taranis.org/drraw/#download

I extracted it under /var/www, then renamed the directory from
drraw-2.2bd to drraw.

I editted the file /var/www/drraw/drraw.conf to set the datadirs like so:

  %datadirs = ('/usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata-nagios2'  = '[Nagios2]
',
   '/usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata'  = '[Nagios3] ',
  );

You probably only need the one datadir - I have some old .rrds in
perfdata-nagios2 I like to be able to look at too.

I set variables for the working directories for drraw like so:

  $saved_dir = '/usr/local/drraw/saved';
  $tmp_dir = '/usr/local/drraw/tmp';

These already existed on my system from a previous install - you may
need to create them. Put them wherever you think is suitable and make
sure they are writeable by apache (on my system permissions on these
are drwxr-xr-x 2 www-data www-data).

I create the file /etc/apache2/conf.d/drraw.conf like so:

# ScriptAlias /nagios/cgi-bin /usr/local/nagios/sbin

  Alias /drraw /var/www/drraw
  Directory /var/www/drraw
  DirectoryIndex  drraw.cgi
  #  SSLRequireSSL
 Options +ExecCGI
 AddHandler cgi-script .cgi
 AllowOverride None
 Order allow,deny
 Allow from all
  #  Order deny,allow
  #  Deny from all
  #  Allow from 127.0.0.1
 AuthName Nagios Access
 AuthType Basic
 AuthUserFile /usr/local/nagios/etc/htpasswd.users
 Require valid-user
  /Directory

and restarted the apache daemon to make it take effect.

I hope this helps.

If you're still having trouble, please be a bit more specific about
what you are having a problem with.

Cheers,

Jim

[Nagios-users] pnp4nagios memory issues

2009-04-06 Thread Marco Tirado
Hello people:

I have changed the configuration of the RRA files for my pnp graphs and now
I seem to have some memory issues this is the error I see in the pnp4nagios
graphs:

*Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to
allocate 40 bytes) in /usr/local/nagios/share/pnp/include/function.inc.php
on line 1411*

My rra.cfg configuration file looks like this:

*#
# PNP RRA config
#
# The estimated size of the files will be
#
# 2880 entries with 1 minute step = 48 houres
#
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:2880
#
# 210240 entries with 5 minute step = 2 years
#
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:5:210240

RRA:MAX:0.5:1:2880
RRA:MIN:0.5:5:210240

RRA:MAX:0.5:1:2880
RRA:MIN:0.5:5:210240

*As you can see we need 5 minute precission for 2 years in our graphs, this
results into 5M rrd files for one measuring point*.
*
I have tried changing the memory_limit in my php.ini file from 8M up to
256M and restarted apache every time but the problem persists. Is there a
hardcoded memory limit in the
*/usr/local/nagios/share/pnp/include/function.inc.php
*file? has anybody seen this problem before?

Any help hint, recommendatoin or comment is deeply appreciated

Re: [Nagios-users] pnp4nagios - view graph for disabled service

2009-04-04 Thread Jim Avery
2009/4/4 Dhaval Thakar dhaval.tha...@networthdirect.com:
 Hi,

 I am using pnp4nagios to generate rrd graphs for all nagios hosts
 services.
 It is working fine for active services,

 If I am trying to view graph for disabled / removed service, graph is
 disabled.
 e.g I am monitoring traffic for eth0 eth1 for a month. for some reason I
 stopped monitoring eth1, now I need utilization graph.
 in this case eth1 is disabled in pnp4nagios.

 I am unable to view graph unless I change time for eth1.xml (NAGIOS_TIMET)

 Is there any option in pnp to view graph for disabled service (apart from
 time change in respective xml file), kindly guide me to solve this.

I normally view a graph which does work okay then just enter a similar
url, but with the relevant strings changed to match the old graph I
want to view.

Another thing I noticed is that DRRAW will pick up old .rrd databases.
 Try Max Schubert's excellent version re-engineered to work well with
PNP at http://github.com/perldork/drraw-pnp/tree/master

Jim

Hi,

i recommend pnp. Integration in Nagios is very simple and you get the graphs
immediately. Nevertheless you can design the look of the graphs individually
with the template mechanism.

 Hi,

 i recommend pnp. Integration in Nagios is very simple and you get the graphs
 immediately. Nevertheless you can design the look of the graphs individually
 with the template mechanism.

Same here - recommend pnp for the reasons stated above.

I haven't used nagiosgraph so I cannot talk to how it works, but PNP
is also very flexible with how you integrate it and can be made to
scale very nicely :); the developers are also open to user patches.

I like to think I'm relatively competent with Nagios, but I fought with
nagiosgraph for a while before I ran out of patience and gave up.
Unfortunately it's been several months since I did this, so I can't
remember why I hated it so much. It didn't help that there are multiple
packages out there named 'nagiosgraph'. pnp4nagios, otoh, installed
quickly, easily, and just works.

I'm disappointed that Nagios doesn't have a graphing engine built in.
It's silly to go to the trouble of setting up checks to build datapoints
(e.g. ping RTT, memory, disk space) and then throw away data that could
have great historic value. Of course, this is a whole 'nother can of
worms and gets into the it's only build for one thing argument.

Met vriendelijke groet/kind regards,
bryan
