Region-wide review in southwest Wyoming not needed, BLM reports

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - A three-year review of the Bureau of Land
Management's own environmental documents concluded that a region-wide
review of the cumulative impacts of mineral and gas projects in
southwestern Wyoming is unnecessary, according to an agency report.

Conservation organizations and the federal Environmental Protection Agency
expressed continued concern over the rapid pace of industrial development
in the region.

Dan Heilig, executive director of the Wyoming Outdoor Council, said the
45-page Southwest Wyoming Resource Evaluation Report reflects "a
demonstrable, heavy bias toward mineral and energy development at the
expense of other Congressionally recognized uses and values" of the public
lands.
