But is there an Inuk Ken?
WebPosted Jul 16 2004 08:55 AM CDT

IQALUIT - Mattel Canada's Inuk Barbie will be on store shelves in fall
2005. The toymaker says it will not be mass-produced, and will not be
available at major retail stores.

The doll was designed by a Ryerson School of Fashion student Christi
Marcus, whose grandmother was originally from Nunavik.

Janice Rudkowski with Mattel Canada says the doll was chosen out of 10
possible models because it just stood out.

"This gown is absolutely stunning, what Christi Marcus did," Rudkowski
says. "She actually hand painted three of the panels on the skirt, which is
absolutely stunning, and then she used a very interesting material – some
faux fur ... to accessorize and finish off the dress."

Rudkowski says the company is now working on the replication and production
of the doll.

She doesn't know how much Inuk Barbie will sell for. It will only be
available at specialty doll stores.
