As a reminder, Neartown Association will host a presentation on Thursday, March 1, 2007 to review the final three options Metro has chosen for the western segment of the University Corridor. (See below for a blurb.) This is to be an informative session and we invite all from the Neartown civic associations to attend. Please pass along to your civic groups. Location and time are as follows:
What: "Transit in Houston: Building urban connectivity" Presentation by Robin Holzer of the Citizens' Transportation Coalition (CTC) Location: St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Pecore Hall 1805 W. Alabama, 77098, around back on Woodhead and Sul Ross Date: Thursday, March 1, 2007 Time: 6:30 pm <-- Please note earlier time! Thanks. Allen Robin Holzer is a former business consultant turned civic leader who lives in Neartown. She earned an MBA from Rice University in 2002 and a BA from Rice in 1993. For the last four years, Robin has been increasingly involved in our community: as an alumni volunteer, as an officer in her civic club, through St. Stephen's church, and as a co-founder of the Citizens' Transportation Coalition (CTC) whose board Robin now chairs. Robin will talk about "Transit in Houston: Building urban connectivity" She will put METRO's current light rail expansion plans in context, with a focus on how the east-west University line will affect both Neartown neighborhoods and Houston's entire transit system. The most important transit questions facing us are not rail vs. bus or Westpark vs. Richmond. Instead, we must decide what role transit should play in our city. That requires us to consider how Houston ties together today and how we want the city to grow. The decisions we are making now will shape our region and our neighborhoods for decades.
