That update has always be a pain. It would be much better if the gephi plugin connected to Neo4j server via HTTP or Bolt and pulled the data from there using Cypher.
I currently don't have the capacity. But if there is anyone with some Netbeans experience I would be more than happy to support them from the Neo4j side !
