Update on SP-353 version: Proof of concept is complete - I have a 6 digit SP-353 clock that works! Slight mods required to the display board (I made the holes too small for the pin sockets - Doh!) but I think we're there. I am waiting for revised display boards to arrive so I can test but they

I've tried to get that one from Aliexpress previously, but they later refunded me saying they weren't getting any more stock. On Friday, 11 December 2020 at 21:42:35 UTC Pramanicin wrote: > Did anyone else on the list buy one of those recent CRT clock kits that > was listed on eBay? > > like

Re: [neonixie-l] Re: Nixie tube failure - not outgassed, but does not maintain ignition?

2020-12-15 Thread Kevin A.
One theory in my head is that the cathodes could potentially act like getters if the tube doesn't have one? I don't think these 8971s have a getter. If contaminants outgas over a long time (even if the tube is not in service), maybe they are attracted to the cathode metal and form deposits that

No idea if it is related to cathode "poisoning". But yeah. Seen this effect on a lot of older russion tubes that have been sitting for decades. Especially seen it on IN-9s and less so on IN-13s. Used to have to "burn" then in at elevated currents for a while before they'd behave. Note that it

Some old datasheets mention that you need to exercise each digit for some time before they will illuminate fully after long time in storage, I've seen this time being mentioned as 24 hours when the Nixies have been stored for more than a year. The same goes for the glow that sometimes appear on

Thanks for the link but it looks like they're making a different product than what I'm looking for. I'm talking about the honeycomb mesh that was being used in many Russian tubes. I believe I've seen a picture from a Dalibor tube where he also uses it so I'll ask him. On Saturday, December 12,
