My Jeff Thomas Nixichron has been misbehaving.
It's worked flawlessly for years. Lately (4 mo?) it's had a hard time
keeping a GPS lock, so much so that the GPS coordinates would be wrong when
displayed. Sometimes just a little, sometimes a lot. Then it would get a

GPS receivers have a concept of an "ephemeris", which is basically the orbits
of the GPS satellites in view and information about them. It uses this for a
"warm start", so once it gets the
Hi!
After a very long hiatus of being off, I powered up the NixiChron. The GPS
module, a Haicom HI-203E, blinks at a very slow rate, which means no solid
satellite acquisition. Normally, at some point, it would start blinking
faster, indicating a solid acquisition. Due to this, the NixiChron bo
Hi.
I have one of Jeff Thomas' NixiChron's, acquired in 2005. It's since had
the MCU replaced in 2008, along with the latest grounding circuit
modification. In 2009, it had the tendency to lock up and emit a high
pitched sound intermittently, but that has stopped. In 2010, after
unplugging

If you have to replace an electrolytic that's in a warm place use a
Electrolytic caps can dry-out and become near-short-circuits. It's not
common, but I have had that happen to me once.
Also look for signs of overheating on the PC board.
Voltage regulators are pretty robust; many of the common ones (such as the
LM78xx series) shut-down when overloaded (overheated
Your clock needs to have its parts checked individually for shorts. This
usually involves desoldering things.
I fixed one of those clocks once, took a couple hours of surgery to repair
the PC board where it had developed a carbon track under the HV switch FET.

I am wondering if someone could help me to solve my Nixichron problem.
Today, after 3 weeks off I plugged in my Nixichron again and my breaker
then jumped :(
My power adaptor (220V/12V) is dead. I used another one but my clock don't
work anymore.
I disassembled the clock and checked the 1,5A fu
I’ve got a handful of Nixisat and Nixichron clocks all of which could use
modern GPS upgrades. My cylindrical acrylic Nixisat has been down for a few
years because the original GPS board died, and it’s just been sitting in
storage.
Is the firmware update from John Miktuk? What is the version?
Hi All,
Only a few Nixichron upgrades are left. I have three ready to go, and a few
more boards to be assembled. I may order more toward the end of the year,
but it won't be an ongoing business, for sure.
A new firmware release is ready. Some minor bugs were squashed, a few
options were added
Thank you Dieter!
