The full kit Kickstarter project for this clock was USD $1100, with tubes, but
that was in January of this year:

This seller is always on the high side. Recent sales at ‘stupid’ prices have
emboldened some sellers. Not useful to hobbyists as Jeff alluded to. However,
these are a finite resource and market forces apply. IN18’s are slowly creeping
up in price as have pretty much most tubesi’ve been
I remember this seller from a few years ago on eBay had a storage locker full of these. He used to show them on what looked like his back porch back then. He had thousands of them

Normally, we see 7971's wrapped up in old newspapers or shipped in the
Ultronics boards that have been sitting around for the last 50 years. It
is cool to see photos of the tubes in carriers that look more like what
would have been expected for bulk
Now that's simply out of control!

Yes, that is correct, but when I try to order from them, or any other
distributor, and select that I live in Sweden they suddenly add those extra
charges as they don't have them in any European warehouse and they also
change it into "company order only" so that blocks me too. I guess they
A quick search shows that Newark and Allied both have the HH Smith ones,
though the Allied black ones are on back order

I see 36 tubes which makes EUR 8280. I wonder how long they have been in
storage?

Funny you should mention the newspapers.
I had 6x B7971 tubes in a closet I was cleaning out last week. Those were in
oversized tube boxes with newspaper wrappings. The funny part is that they
were all older than me. My son (12th grade) brought them to government and
history class just
Talk about outrageous. Someone should lowball him. $400. Because that's
what it's actually worth (just the tubes).

I hope this is solved now, I'll let you know when I receive them.
Thanks to everyone for helping out!

This seller is known for nixie tubes, and even special ones. I wonder where
you get them.Mostly because of the packing, since B7971 usually were
plugged from equipment, it looks like this seller had acces to ex-stock of
spare parts.
There are alot of suppliers that actually carry nixie tubes,
I didn't mean this one was... I was more referring to others where the
tubes are 25$ and the shipping is 20$. Maybe I shouldn't conflate that
issue with this offer. That's why I put a carriage return between the
statements. Mainly just suggesting to others to look at the shipping cost.
On Mon,
I think I like the slightly finer rectangular grid of the three but seeing six
of any in a clock would be epic! I considered it but with only two available I
was pretty sure I might end up just leaving them on the shelf and maybe never
see them again. I thought it over and almost bought them.
What amazes me is the price then actually asking for shipping on top of that...
It's almost an insult.
I've noticed a lot of others that are even worse on eBay trying to hide
inflated prices in the shipping. Almost like they're trying to take advantage
of newer bidders. I mean come on 20$+
At least when I usually paid that high of price for tubes they didn't ask for
additional shipping is was included in the price that's all.

How is that almost an insult? You are certainly free not to buy these
tubes :)

Maybe the high voltage supply is tapped out; just not enough current for
all 4 tubes at once. Or the high voltage is a bit low and causing
inconsistent ionization across tubes. It could also be a combination of
both where the power supply voltage drops when the tubes are brought up,
and the last
I have an early Pete Hand 4LW clock using B7971s. Since day 1, tube # 2 has
been slightly slow to energize when the IR sensor wakes the clock up. No
big deal, I just noticed it, always tube # 2. Maybe a second late at the
most. Always figured it was the tube.
Now as of this week, it's tube #3
I picked up a couple sets just because they're so unique. I hope they look as
neat as I think they might. Pictures just don't always do justice. Both MG-17F
and G look different.

Strange, but it could still be the tube.
I have a bunch that are slower to trigger / require more power.
I also have the 4LW clock which I typically swap tubes in to see how they
perform.
Some delay, some flicker. When I power directly and add more current and/or
voltage, they seem
The name Elfin Rodan MG-17G and labeling is really cool looking too. Different
kind of label on them too. There doesn't seem to be an above grid in front of
this one where the MG-17F does have one in front.
