Hi Paul,
I have seen a few of your clocks on eBay, I do like the test equip
sawn-offs - I have a Venner counter here that would go nicely like this but
it is such a nice bit of kit as it is...
Nice to see that there are a few of us in the south of the UK, guess we
will all be battering down
Hello
From my chemistry days I think there is a complementary explanation to the
coating of cathodes with Mercury and for mercury vapor inside the Nixie.
It takes less energy to energize mercury atoms than energizing the atoms in
the penning mix (Neon and Argon). This principle also led to
If you consider/allow the IN-13 bargraph to be a nixie tube, it uses a
molybdenum cathode and nickel anode.

Ron,
I have the board design complete and I am currently testing the software -
I like to make sure the software gets a complete test, which takes a little
time.
Next week I will launch a Kick Start program so I can build a decent
quantity of boards at a low price.
I'll keep you informed.

Just started hammering down here - the cellar under my workshop now has 4ft
of water in it :( SWMBO is out buying bits to get our pumps going again...
Weird thing is that those places around us that normally flood, i.e. flood
in most normal winters, have escaped this time for some reason. We
Stay safe Nick and to all the others affected in my old homelandwe
could do with some of that water in CA!

Eric,
The thread started on the tube clock database forum that I put on my
previous post.
I have a link to more info on the board here:
www.coldwarcreations.com/microboard/microboard.html This sums up the board,
and I will post more info on the site next week.
I will post the Kick start info
Hi Folks, a little off-topic (but perhaps not)...can anyone recommend a
good, reasonably priced bench top multimeter for a hobbyist who's trying to
understand a little bit more about electronics (me..). I have a good
handheld but am looking for something a little more permanent for my
workshop and

Interesting! Does the IN-13 contain mercury?

I'm a huge fan of the Agilent 34401A - now superceded but still the best
selling bench DMM ever. The replacement 34461A new is less than a new 344301A
but the older one is often available on auction sites.
Probably overkill but undoubtedly the best there is :)
Cheers

There are a lot of HP 3478A available on ebay in varying condition at
affordable prices. I was lucky to find one for $150 in Europe in great
condition.

The 3478A is a very good meter as are most of the HP's and same for
Fluke. The Fluke 8840 series is quite good, and should be affordable on
Ebay as well. BUT, as with all things on Ebay either buy one that is
warrantied to be in good 'working' condition, OR is at least
returnable to the
Yes the 34401A is an excellent meter, I have several here on different
benches in our lab, and as you mention has been superseded. However it
probably still sells for around four hundred bucks, give or take, on
Ebay in WARRANTIED working condition, which may still be a bit much for
some folks.
Not to my knowledge for the two variants.

You can find sockets for the A101 at: http://www.gstube.com/catalog/rsh30-0/
I got some from him a short while back. Note that the picture shows a metal
clamp; he does not have them anymore.

The HP's and Flukes are all really good but I picked up a Techtronixs CDM250
awhile back for a song and a dance. Nice meter. Look on the bay as there is
plenty there of all types.
