"A Census of Public Computing in Toledo, Ohio." To appear in _Shaping the Network Society: The New Role of Civic Society in Cyberspace_, edited by Douglas Schuler and Peter Day, MIT Press, publisher. ABSTRACT: An enumeration of public computing sites in Toledo, Ohio, identifies 253 sites, proposes a methodology, and elaborates a model. The model is that government sites are distributed equally across an urban area, commercial and university sites are distributed more to higher socioeconomic locales, and community sites are distributed to the highest and lowest socioeconomic locales and less to middle strata locales. ---- Kate Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] doctoral student, University of Michigan http://www.umich.edu/~katewill ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Aug 2002 08:30:00 -0500 From: Gleason Sackmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RESOUR> Share: Dieppe 1942 Remembered From: "Pat Elliott" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 21:30:05 -0400 Subject: Share: Dieppe 1942 Remembered Hello fellow t-ls, Here are web sites that outline and honour the loss of lives of the allied forces raid at Dieppe, France in 1942, 60 years ago today. http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/sub.cfm?source=feature/dieppe02 The remembrance of the great sacrifice by the Canadian soldiers. http://www.gg.ca/media/news/archive-2002/20020815_e.asp Lest we forget, Pat Elliott [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://edselect.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law. And you can sample some Japanese story problems from Japan's Junior High School math placement test that is given to 12 year olds. The full test features 225 story problems and each is timed from 1 to 5 minutes. The problems are logic-based and consist of about 20 different types of story problems. The point of this site is to begin providing quality math content based on world standards. The Japanese continue to place among the top 3 countries world-wide in terms of their students' math abilities. The US was recently ranked #14 in international math placement. Would be nice if US students were exposed to international level math content and this site represents a step in that direction. This site also includes an online dictionary, links and an optional newsletter registration.
