Finally got this up and running on my i386. It appears the problem was either
a marginal motherboard battery (clock was doing strange things) or the
configuration of ipfilter I've been using for years on previous versions of
NetBSD. I replaced the battery and converted from ipfilter to npf

I think I'm seeing similar problems with 6.1.3 on i386. In my case the system
hangs hard not long after coming up and with very little activity. I've tried
breaking into DDB and forcing a crash dump but either I can't get into DDB or
when I do the crash dump doesn't complete. This is with

I have upgraded to 6.1.3 and have upgraded also most of my packages.
The machine is not one of the fastest for compiling seamonkey :)
Anyway, the problem is that if I try to start seamonkey, I get a hard
reboot!
That should never happen, I guess... for the rest i did compile and run
