Are The Packages Gone Again?
Esteemed Colleages: Are the NetBSD 10 packages gone again? I recently removed ghostscript with the intention of re-installing it (gs was complaining that there was no libtiff.so, which is preposterous, because there was, but I didn't want to argue with it). Removing ghostscript brought with it the removal of gv, atril, okular, ImageMagick6 and libspectre, but, with the same trust in my future happiness as a young lover, I cheerfully agreed to those consequences. But then I found, in that same horrible manner as a young lover's first betrayal, that I could remove those packages, but, once removed, I could not get them back (other than ghostscript, which I was able to reinstall). ImageMagick6, gv, atril, okular, libspectre -- all gone. I could not reinstall them. I looked for them everywhere, or more precisely, I looked for them in http://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/amd64/10.0_2023Q3/All/ and in https://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/amd64/10.0_2023Q3/All/ and they are gone, disparu, cruellement disparu. I tried to build at least some of them from source, and I got as far as libspectre (which I put into /usr/local/lib, I could not bear to have it occupy /usr/pkg/lib where the old libspectre had lived). But to build atril from source I needed glib-genmarshal from glib, and to build glib I needed aclocal-1.15, and at that point I stopped, because it is rumored that I have a life. These rumors are of questionable veracity, inasmuch as it is 1am and I am not in bed, but I am, rather, sitting at my work table and trying unsuccessfully to build software, but I did nevertheless stop, because I do have, if not a life, at least something distantly resembling one, a faint violet whiff and dead leaf echo of a life, and I am not going to build the GNU Automake packages (which requires GNU Autoconf, GNU m4 and Perl) at 1am (now 1:07am) in the morning, in order to build glib, in order to build atril, even if I have, not a life, but only an after-dinner sleep dreaming of one. So what is going on? Are the packages gone, once again, as they were earlier this year? Are they being rebuilt? And why I am being punished, when I have not sinned? As always, thank you in advance for any and all replies. Jay F.
