I installed 9.2 from the powerpack disks I purchased. A few quirks but
it went well. I had already downloaded all the security updates and bug
fixes so I skipped it during install. Finished the install and went for
the updates. They all took and they all said invalid key. I used my

was recognized. I had pointed it to hdd4, but it just wouldn't work.
Had a little trouple with the modem by got that straighten out too. I
did use the dmesg dmesg.txt. That confirmed my zip as hdd. Thanks

I upgraded the kernel from the rpm files as stated in the security
alert. I did the iptables and lm-utils with the rpm package manager. I
used the instructions that came with the security alert.
rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.7-12.3mdk.i586.rpm etc.
Rebooted with no problems.

I recently installed a new motherboard from FIC. It has the VIA 686B
southbridge chip and according to the Register it has a bug in it. I have
found fixes for windows on the FIC and VIA websites but cannot find a way
to fix the bug for Linux. My Mandrake is acting strange
I have upgraded my machine to an AMD 850 Duron with a 1st Mainboard AZ11E
and 256 MB PC133 ram. Used the same video card (3dFX Voodoo3 3000 PCI and
the same Actiontec Modem). I also put in a WD 7200RPM 40 gb harddrive and
kept my WD 10.4 GB with Mandrake installed on it.

You should be able to just type startx at the prompt and it should
work. That's all I do and it works.

Thanks Civileme, I quess I'll start saving for a different HD. I am
currently using 7.2 , was going to try 8.0 beta but have no way to download
(no burner). I did finally get to the second drive (also a WD 10.4) and
was able to get GRUB to work and can now go to either windows or Mandrake
