Project "Balkan NATO bus" begins

Skopje, June 20 (MIA) - Macedonian Euro-Atlantic Club, in cooperation with the Macedonian Defense Ministry and the NATO Head Office in Brussels, announced Sunday project "Balkan NATO Bus", which will set off for the Istanbul Pan-Atlantic Student Summit, due to be held in the framework of the Istanbul NATO Summit on June 26-30.

   "The objective of the project is to confirm the readiness of the states, especially young people in the region, for creation of a new political reality as one of the basic conditions for our Euro-Atlantic integration", Secretary-General of the Macedonian Euro-Atlantic Club, Lazar Elenovski stated at Sunday's press conference.

   According to him, this is part of the parallel NGO activity, organized by the Atlantic association, in which Macedonia is one of the 40 national associations.

   Caravan "Balkan NATO Bus" will travel from Skopje to Zagreb, Sarajevo and Tirana, then again to Skopje on June 24, when a youth happening is to be held. Afterwards, it will continue its road to Sofia, with Istanbul being the final destination.

   Each state within the project includes 7 young people. According to announcements, the project members will meet NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Istanbul, and probably US State Secretary Colin Powell.
