---------------------------------
Posted Saturday, February 2, 2002 by tb:
"To have a new experience abroad would be stimulating."

"I can't hide the interest of this type of club is pleasing because they represent
some of the most prestigious clubs in the world.

"However, at the moment I am bound to Roma and think exclusively about Roma."

McAteer on Keano:

"I've got a lot of respect for Roy, although he's a miserable bastard - and you can
write that."

"He is a complex character. I see him personally and professionally and he's not too
dis similar. I can't work him out, but I really enjoy watching his press conferences."

As Monkey's head says:

"It is a great game to try to bounce back in. I don't think we've been at our best at
Old Trafford and I think we have maybe been intimidated by the names and the crowd.

"We have given Man United some very good games at the Stadium of Light. There is
massive admiration for their players' ability but there shouldn't be any fear.

"But you don't need me to tell you how difficult it's going to be. I consider them to
be the best side in the country. I am not saying they are going to win the title,
because it is going to be really close. But if you talk about consistency over the
years Manchester United are the best side.

"Players like David have a star side to them. In the beginning, you find yourself just
looking at them, but then you have to try and get the ball.

"The Beckhams get more media coverage than the Queen. It is difficult to live with
paparazzi on every corner. I couldn't do it, but he seems to handle it calmly."

"As a defender, you need a lot of concentration. A forward can try anything and there
is a bit of the don't-give-a-damn in their character and behaviour.

"They can afford to be a little nonchalant from time to time. They try something and
get nothing said because it is their job.

"Sure, there are times it is as well for them that they score. They have their
demands, too. But with us, it is demanding all the time.

"Defenders do not emerge at the top level at 19. It is impossible, but a striker can
do it.

"You need a lot of experience and patience to play at the back and that is acquired
through age. It comes along later."

[9] Mickey: Defenders are skint
---------------------------------
Posted Saturday, February 2, 2002 by tb:
"It's unfair. There is a difference in salary between attackers and defenders, who are
always less well paid."

Mickey, sometimes it's better to keep it shut!

"You have to be honest, Old Trafford does not have the most impressive atmosphere in
England.

"There is no end to the volume of noise you get at Liverpool.

"Some players in the team, notably Roy Keane last year, have complained about our
situation.

"People have become a little bourgeois in the stand and shout a little less than
usual."

>From Ananova:

Manchester United and Chelsea have joined the Association of European Club Channels
(AECC) to promote the interests of their respective television channels.

The AECC - a non-profit organisation - was formed after negotiations between eight
clubs in Venice over the past two days and will lobby Uefa on behalf of club TV
channels.

MUTV and Chelsea TV join the club channels of European rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona,
Marseille, Roma, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

[3] Fergie on Dwight
---------------------------------
Posted Saturday, February 2, 2002 by tb:
"Obviously Dwight refused to go to Middlesbrough or his agent refused him to go."

"Paolo di Canio was only going to work if I could have sold Dwight. But Dwight's here
as a player and you never know in football.

"If Dwight maintains his training performance, and he has been doing well in training,
then he will not be dismissed."

[2] Three in a row!

As we get to keep the Premiership trophy after winning it 3 times in a row. PL suit
Dave Richards will present it to Fartin and Fergie before the game, and says:

"We are proud of their record and wish the team well for what is shaping up to be one
of the most gripping title races in years."

Now call me a cynic if you like, but this wouldn't happen to have anything to do with
the fact that they've had to get a new one anyway, with the change of sponsors from
Carling to Barclaycard?

Just a thought

"For me I didn't expect this in my first season."

"I think after being out for a year and then joining United, you don't expect this.

"But it's happened and I can only be very pleased and I'll try to keep it going.

"It's great to play in this team and for a striker it's fantastic.

"The other players create and we have so many dangerous players that the opposition
defenders have to mark everybody up front, which means I'm not the only one who gets
attention.

"I'm scoring the goals, but there's a lot of great play and I'm lucky to be on the end
of it."
