Hi Chris, I'm sure you're right. I had considered grosbeak but it just struck me as sounding too low in tone (especially hearing it in life) compared to what I usually hear from rose-breasted grosbeak, and that sent me looking for other possibilities. I was probably just thinking too hard. . .

Hello, I heard and recorded the attached audio in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania about an hour before dawn on Sept. 17. An 11-second clip is attached in which the unidentified call can be heard at about 2 sec and 9 sec. I recall hearing it six times, five of which were picked up on
