Novice question time, I have an 83 450 with two carbs.
There is a fuel line from the petcock to the carb and also a nipple at the
bottom of the carb. looks like there should be a fuel line attached to the
bottom nipple, but I don't know where the other end would go to?

Sounds like float bowl drains and/or overflow tubes. And there should
be at least one tube connecting the carbs to one another.

nipple on bottom of carb (float bowl) is overflow tube (doesn't need a tube
attached although originally it did directing any overflow out under the bike).
If you have gas coming out of it then you have a stuck float or leaking float
valve/seat. Sounds like carbs need to be removed and

Here is an update. I have gottrn the shaadow to run. The problem was that
when I cleaned and reoiled the air filter I put to much oil on it. but what
was so perplexing is that I did this before I started the work on the
transmission. So, I guess that the oil must of setteled in the main
That seems to be the most common complaint regarding oiled filters. It is my
understanding that it is best to oil let is set or hang for 1/2 a day. This
allows any excess oil to drip off. I have a couple on cars need to clean one
of them. That is the way I intend to go about re- oiling.
After cleaning I just oil the dirty side of the filter, not the clean side.
