Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Charging/Electrical Issue

2019-12-01 Thread Darin Hatton
Hi Jenya,
The easiest way for me to see what the charging system is doing is to set
multi meter to D C volts, put lead on battery with bike running. Should
show 12 + volts at idle and about 14.5 volts at about 5k rpms.

Sorry Jenya, I didn’t explain my post very well. It’s the 30 amp fuse that has
the solenoid or relay attached, ( not sure what it’s called ).

When cranking it shows 8.6 V. So it’s definitely a tired battery (a 1.5 yo).

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Charging/Electrical Issue

2019-12-01 Thread Jenya Spektor
I have followed the steps in the manual - my regulator reads 1 when I touch
the yellow wires on the regulator side. I presume it needs to be 0, correct?
The stator side test shows 0.4.
Let me know what i should test next - unless this is a telltale of some
trouble.

The bike starts right up no problem.
By the way it's acting, it might be the regulator/rectifier not
 charging the battery.
I would like to ask if you guys have any recommendations on a
replacement part that is a more modern (maybe two in one)?
 Thank you in advance.

There are some pics on Kyle's blog that had helped me with troubleshooting
the issues with my fuse block.

The fuseblock itself is easy to open and see what is the status of all the
plastic and metal parts.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Fuse block

2019-12-01 Thread 'nick.tamps...@btinternet.com' via Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!
1996 N/H.
The flasher switch on the handle bars wasn’t working. I decided to take both
left and right hand switches off and clean them. After replacing them, the
flasher switch was working but the starter switch was dead. Also, turning on
the ignition switch there was no red light, no indicator light and no main beam
light. The light switch is working ok but no starter.
I’ve checked continuity and that’s fine but on checking power feed it appears
to be a problem with the 30 amp fuse block.
There’s power from the battery to the fuse block, but nothing coming out. The
fuse is ok, even tried another fuse.
Why would cleaning the switches cause these problems. Could I have caused a
short and blown the fuse block.
Can the fuse block be dismantled for inspection.
Any help much appreciated.
