It would be the jumpers, that barrel is just the tumblers for the key that
allows you to rotate the switch or not. No electrics in there.

This is great Kyle! Thank you! I'll take the switch out and have a look.
Hopefully it's the jumpers you describe and not something in the actual
barrel itself.

The switch is easy enough to test with a multimeter once you have it off
the bike. I would suggest that before disassembling it.

I took pics when I cleaned and repaired the ignition switch on my 700S, the
same procedure should work for your 650. Another touch piece to test on the
650 is where the harness plugs into the back of the fuse block. Make sure
those are cleaned and plugged in snugly.
It works fine most of the time. I've just noticed that occasionally, while
running at speed, the taillight warning light comes on and my taillight
goes out. If I turn the key just slightly to the right (very slightly), the
lights come back on. But, a couple of times when I've done that the bike

I have a 1983 Nighthawk 650SC. I believe I am having some issues with the
ignition switch. Occasionally, the tail lights go out while riding. I
figured out that if I jiggle the key in the switch a bit, they come back
on. However, more recently when I tried that, the bike shut down
completely.
