A really easy way to understand the builtins is to use the nix-repl. The
tab completion is really nice.

Do you plan to merge one of those solutions into Nix, or are there
some blocking issues? or is it no more and no less but lack of time?

The Go language toolkit has the nice approach, similar as in doxygen
or javadoc, based on theory that if documentation is close to code, it
will be easier to keep it correct. I believe it is working great. It
would be nice if a similar tool was created for Nix, making it easy to

The builtins are written in C++, just as most of Nix.

Hi Nix-devs,
I'm currently looking for a way to do a readFile with a path coming from a
list of values.
In the list I defined the path as a string, relative to the current
directory. When I try to use this value in a function, I keep getting the
error that the path is not absolute

Thanks Vladimír,
As I'm unfamiliar with python, the manual is indeed an easier way to
understand the use of these builtins.
Kind regards,
Erik

*usage* of builtins should be described in nix manual:
http://nixos.org/nix/manual/#ssec-builtins
(a few are missing IIRC or intentionally undocumented)

Hi Layus,
perfect, exactly what I was looking for ;-)
Thanks!

Hi Erik,
The builtins are builtins from nix, and are found in the nix tool, not
in nixpkgs.
For listToAttrs, you will fins them in

Hi Nix-devs, hi Tomasz, hi Игорь,
I managed to get it working flawlessly by adding keys.target to the
requires and after statements of my other service configs.
I was just wondering how this copes with server kills (as Vultr
periodically resets an instance when they experience system failures).
Yea! I think another difference would be that installCheckPhase usually
comes from upstream, and binaryRunChecks would be nix-specific.

Hi,
One problem I encounter not very often, but often enough to be annoyed by
it is that binaries build successfully but don't actually run due to some
missing run time dependency ( template, LD_PRELOAD, a dependency that
should have been in propagatedBuildInputs, ..)
We have a "Tested execution

Now, when I've done some package upgrades and downgrades, I really like the
idea of a separate srcs repo. I'd like to contribute 3 ideas.
1. Use some of monitor.nixos.org logic for srcs updating
2. Autoextract src information from nixpkgs to srcs
3. Add meta.updateSrcsScript or meta.listAllSrcs
