MS suggest you use Ctrl+W to close a Word document,
so it's been there for quite a while:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/compshortcuts.mspx

I'll check my dusty MS I18N book at home and see how
Ctrl+W compares to Ctrl+F4 -- ie, are they "official"
aliases. I think it originally comes from a Mac stroke, for
"Close Window".

In any case, I love to find an app where Ctrl+W is working,
since I don't need to LOOK at the keyboard to execute it,
unlike Ctrl+F4.

I use these 3 daily, heavily, and all support Ctrl+W:

N++
FireFox
ProntPage (but it's not documented!)

Thanks Don!!!

<quote>
I really liked the functionality of the Explorer plugin in 3.9, where the
"Favourites" menu was more like a project explorer, than a view of the whole
directory structure where my project is stored. I liked having the files shown
in the same place as the folders. I just liked how the old plugin worked, but
I also like the new ability to dock it. Is there anyway to get he old Explorer
plugin with the new dockable capabilities?
</quote>

I totally agree on this one.

I'm trying to add REM or :: to selected lines
in a .BAT file using Ctrl+Q or Ctrl+Shift+Q.
It does not work for me (N++ 4.0.2).

All batch language tokens are recognized and
colored fine.

Can anybody help? Where is this defined? Does
N++ support only comment tokens of a single character?

Hello,
I experienced this bug in 4.0.1, but since the thread "Notepad++ v4.0.2 is
released"
by donho doesn't report this being fixed, I assume this bug also exists
in 4.0.2:
When opening a file whos name contains spaces, NPP has a problem. It works fine
when you doubleclick the file in Explorer and NPP is not opened, but when NPP
is already opened it gives the message "[filename] doesn't exist. Create it?"
Then it gets even stranger:
For example: open a file "Copy of index.php". NPP asks "Copy doesn't exist.
Create it?". When you click No, it asks "of doesn't exist. Create it?" When
you click No again and index.php exists, it will open that file!
It's a very annoying bug, that didn't exist in 3.9 as far as I know, and I hope
it will get fixed very soon.

Thanks,
 ZanderZ

What are the registry records I should change to
notepad++.exe -multiInst
in order to have a new window whenever I click view source in IE?

I have never used FireFox (shame ... shame!), but just for completion's sake
and just in case I might, what is needed to be done to view source using npp
in FireFox?

I am Very Disapointed with the Non-Dockable File Explorer. Is there any plans
to make it Dockable.

Should it be "User Defined" rather than "User Define" in
User Defined Windows or User Defined Language?

For examples, we would say:
A red-painted door rather than a red-paint door.
A closed-door session rather than a close-door session.
An educated person rather than an educate person.

We normally use the past participle rather than an infinitive as an adjective
and a gerund as an adverb (a running man). The reason, in my analysis, is that
a door has to have been closed or painted in the past before it could be
considered
in a completely closed or red door. Whereas, an adverb describes an on-going
action - which is why it is a gerund.

There are rare exceptions - many American software licensing agreements have
the phrase
" ... cannot be reproduced without the express permission of XYZSoftCo ..."
which should have been
" ... without the expressed permission ..."
Otherwise, it would mean that even if XYZSoftCo gave you permission but in a
slow (as opposed to an express) pace, you are not allowed to make a copy of
that software.

However, due to its tradition of being used for the past twenty years in
American
software industry, an English teacher friend of mine believe it is unacceptably
accepted legal language.

OMG, sometimes I wonder how mankind has survived until now, when some of you
are even "appaled" of a harmless joke.
Unprofessional? Look - if npp was sold by a company like Microsoft, I'd possibly
agree, as this is pure business (and by the way, I'd refuse wearing Microsoft
pants as my wife could think of many bugs inside ;-)).
However this is freeware, even open source. If you don't like it, just leave
it.
Just my 2 cents.

If your company won't tolerate this annoying & nasty sex site - well, just
download
the software, don't follow the "annoying" link. Simple, isn't it?

To solve this problem:
Open file C:\Program Files\Notepad++\langs.xmlC:\Program
Files\Notepad++\langs.xml
Replace         <Language name="batch" ext="bat cmd nt">
by              <Language name="batch" ext="bat cmd nt" commentLine="REM">

And it is good

I appeal to the appalled
to repeal their green gall
to redress their undress
to dispose their exposed

A conservative?
In repetitive
agonising over moral laxative
offering everyone but grief
[expletive!]

Why wouldn't they instead serve
what the planet would deserve
Conservative?! Heck, what nerve
but do anything but conserve
and for the future reserve.

I drool over the bull
that a few thongs would make a fool
But it perturbed me not a joule
But Don's cool, he's cool.
