I should expect a menu entry with the possibility to insert html codes for
special
characters?
I could not find out how to insert them easily.
Maybe there is a plugin for that purpose?

By the way: i just installed notepad++ as a standlone editor on my usb stick
=> perfect!

I have changed one of the settings in Settings>Preferences>MISC>File Status
Auto-detection by selecting Enable & Update Silently. However, when I open
Notepad++
(v4.9.2) the following day the Update Silently option is no longer selected.
It seems like Notepad++ does not save this setting when closing. Any hint?

Hello,

I just tried notepad++ 5.0 but had to uninstall it again due to problems when
opening files.

Sometimes npp5 just stops opening files. This happens through the built-in
explorer
plugins, through the File->Open menu and through the windows explorer
right-click
menu. NPP doesn't give any warning or notice, but doesn't open the file. The
working directory is changed though, because next time I try the File->Open
menu, it opens with the directory of the file I wanted to open.

This is for files which are on a samba-mounted network drive.

In previous versions there is a somewhat similar bug: in the light explorer
plugin some files are not shown (I started a thread about that too on these
forums). I can live with that, because the File->Open dialog works normally,
but I can not live with the current npp5 which won't let me open files in any
way.

I uninstalled npp5 and reinstalled npp4.9.2, but if there is anything I can
do to help (turn on some hidden "debug log" or something), I'll be glad to do
so.

Kind regards,

Pieter-Jan

Hi, all

I am from China. It's very sadness to me when I see the slogan
about Beijing Olympics. Absolutely, It has injured my feeling. And, I
dare to say, it will injured the feeling of most of Chinese people.
The authors have the right to boycott. And I have the right to tell
you this is hurt. I come here sincerely just to tell this is really
hurt. I have no rights to ask somebody remove it. But it will be
better for we Chinese people, not only the Chinese government.

At the end, I want tell something I know. Because the 'great
firewall' is very tough, and the mass media are all controlled. The
most young people will never easily believe any information him get.
So we are not brain-washed. If you want know more, please navigate to

I was having a similar paste problem, thanks for the tip.

The bad news is I did a quick search and found 3 bugs in the tracker (1958846,
1990795, and 1998193) that seem to be this exact issue. I left a followup on
each one with a link to your post, so hopefully that will clear things up.
Would there a way to "sticky" a post at the top of the help forum with known
solutions to common problems? Not that it would prevent bug submissions that
aren't really bugs or the resubmission of known bugs, but it might help.

The wiki is more or less supposed to do that, add commonly asked stuff and
knowledge
etc. Problem is, no-one seems to use it.

I've been using Notepad++ from USB in linux for a while now. Try Googling
PortableApps and install it onto a USB drive then install Notepad++ on that.

I do a lot of upgrades and editing of files for my vbulletin forum. How do I
have Notepad++ automatically find a piece of code/line, replace it or add a
new specified data below or above it? Basically, I want Notepad++ to fully
memorize
my actions, record it and I can just click the button later and it will do the
same thing automatically. Is this possible? I tried the macro feature but it
seems to not work.

I've been using N++ for writing some Matlab scripts, I've got a small problem
with the way it recognises strings. If I have a string that only contains a
\ such as "file = ([directory,'\',filename]);" the second ' is not recognised
and everything after the first ' is seen as a string.

Is there anyway to change this?

As I remember, the Macro Recorder works only with keyboard, not with menu items.
So, if you want to record some sequence of actions, please use shortcut keys
for all actions you execute.
