I know excel can do that but it's too slow. Using notepad++ to open a subtitle
file is much faster than using excel.

I was frustrated by lack of a concept of a default foreground and background
color that you could globally change and would carry through all languages.
In particular I want the default background to be black and the default
foreground
to be white.

I did however find a solution.

1. open %appdata%\Notepad++\stylers.xml in notepad++
2. ctrl+h to search and replace
3. replace: bgColor="FFFFFF" with bgColor="000000"
4. replace: fgColor="000000" with fgColor="FFFFFF"
5. save the file.
6. close and reopen notepad++

also for those of you looking to use emacs keybindings check out xkeymas at
http://www.cam.hi-ho.ne.jp/oishi/indexen.html

good luck!

I've written such AWK script a lot of time ago. It can shift time in .srt
subtitles,
"compress" and "stretch" it. You can run AWK within Notepad++ using NppExec
plugin. The command line must be similar to this:

c:\progs\awk\awk95.exe -f srt_time.awk original_subtitles.srt

Here is the AWK script (srt_time.awk):

BEGIN {
  TIME_CORR_COEFF  = 1.0427 # time multiplier for compression/stretching
  STR_TIME_CORR    = "-00:00:00,800" # time shifting
  OUTFILENAME      = "_srt_time.out" # output file
  CHAR_TIME_DIV    = ":"
  CHAR_TIME_MS_DIV = ","
  STR_TIME_TO_TIME = "%s --> %s\n"
  STR_TIME_HMSMS   = "%02d%c%02d%c%02d%c%03d"
  TIME_CORR_ACTION = substr(STR_TIME_CORR, 1, 1)
  split(substr(STR_TIME_CORR, 2), a, CHAR_TIME_DIV)
  TIME_CORR = hmsms_to_ms(a)
}

NR >= 1 {
  i = 0
  if (i = (split($1, a, CHAR_TIME_DIV) == 3)) {
    s1 = CorrectTime(a)
    if (i = (split($3, a, CHAR_TIME_DIV) == 3)) {
      s2 = CorrectTime(a)
      printf(STR_TIME_TO_TIME, s1, s2) > OUTFILENAME
    }
  }
  if (!i) {
    if (int($0) == 0) { print $0 > OUTFILENAME }
    else { print int($0)-0 > OUTFILENAME }
  }
}

function hmsms_to_ms(a,    vt) {
  h  = int(a[1])
  m  = int(a[2])
  vt = a[3]
  split(vt, a, CHAR_TIME_MS_DIV)
  s  = int(a[1])
  ms = int(a[2])
  return (ms + 1000*(s + 60*(m + 60*h)))
}

function CorrectTime(a) {
  time = int(TIME_CORR_COEFF*hmsms_to_ms(a))
  if (TIME_CORR_ACTION == "+") { time += TIME_CORR }
  else if (TIME_CORR_ACTION == "-") { time -= TIME_CORR }
  b[1] = int(time/3600000)
  time = time - b[1]*3600000
  b[2] = int(time/60000)
  time = time - b[2]*60000
  b[3] = int(time/1000)
  time = time - b[3]*1000
  b[4] = time

  return sprintf(STR_TIME_HMSMS, b[1], CHAR_TIME_DIV,
        b[2], CHAR_TIME_DIV, b[3], CHAR_TIME_MS_DIV, b[4])
}

Four days of silence? Oh great, it seems that everyone is busy bitching about
that stupid boycott thing rather than actually helping people in 'Help' forum.
Can anyone please answer my question?

Are you sure there is no such plugin? Please look closer. Look in the Plugins
menu. (hint: Plugins -> NppExec -> Help/About..., and, PLEASE, don't be shamed
to read the notes in the dialog you'll see)

You cna try the explorer plugin, using the favorites option. I think it has
a filter which should do what you want

Afaik, the ftp plugin _never_ opened the file from the actual server. This is
in fact impossible considering you have to download the file first in order
to see and edit it :). What could be the case is that you had set an alternate
cache location on some other location on your drive, resembling the layout of
your webserver.
What oyu could try to do is make a new open in forefox/ie command, that only
uses the current file name (not the path), and put a fully qualified web-address
in front of it. That or, if you edit the same file(s), keep firefox/ie open
and select refresh.

The next version of Notepad++ introduces a new function that should resemble
what you want: change only the default background color and all the other styles
will follow, but with a possible override (like for example javascript in HTML).
Just sit tight and hold on :)

Hi,

Notepad++ crashes if you try to open huge file (280 mb log file in my case).
In debug version Notepad++ shows Error message box and opnes only part of the
huge file.
In release build - just crashes with access violation os screen.

As quick fix i suggest you to disable undo collection while opening files. It
will use less memory and will skip unneeded "undo collection" steps. It works
for me (of course it doesn't fix the error message issue in release version,
but it allows opening files with less memory overhead).
=)

I can be done this way:
//npp.4.8.5.src\PowerEditor\src\Notepad_plus.cpp, line 694 bool
Notepad_plus::doOpen(const char *fileName, bool isReadOnly)

...
...

                // It's VERY IMPORTANT to reset the view
                _pEditView->execute(SCI_CLEARALL);
//////Sasha: Add this line to disable undo collection
                _pEditView->execute(SCI_SETUNDOCOLLECTION, 0, 0);

                char data[blockSize];
                size_t lenFile = fread(data, 1, sizeof(data), fp);
                bool isNotEmpty = (lenFile != 0);

                while (lenFile > 0)
                {
                        lenFile = UnicodeConvertor.convert(data, lenFile);
                        _pEditView->execute(SCI_ADDTEXT, lenFile,
reinterpret_cast<LPARAM>(UnicodeConvertor.getNewBuf()));
                        lenFile = int(fread(data, 1, sizeof(data), fp));
                }
                fclose(fp);

                // 3 formats : WIN_FORMAT, UNIX_FORMAT and MAC_FORMAT

(_pEditView->getCurrentBuffer()).determinateFormat(isNotEmpty?UnicodeConvertor
.getNewBuf():(char *)(""));
                _pEditView->execute(SCI_SETEOLMODE,
_pEditView->getCurrentBuffer().getFormat());

                // detect if it's a binary file (non ascii file)

//(_pEditView->getCurrentBuffer()).detectBin(isNotEmpty?UnicodeConvertor.getNe
wBuf():(char *)(""));

                UniMode unicodeMode =
static_cast<UniMode>(UnicodeConvertor.getEncoding());
                (_pEditView->getCurrentBuffer()).setUnicodeMode(unicodeMode);

                if (unicodeMode != uni8Bit)
                        // Override the code page if Unicode
                        _pEditView->execute(SCI_SETCODEPAGE, SC_CP_UTF8);

                if (isReadOnly)
                        (_pEditView->getCurrentBuffer()).setReadOnly(true);

                _pEditView->getFocus();
                _pEditView->execute(SCI_SETSAVEPOINT);
                _pEditView->execute(EM_EMPTYUNDOBUFFER);
//////Sasha: File is loaded, it's time to enable undo collection
                _pEditView->execute(SCI_SETUNDOCOLLECTION, 1, 0);
