It just occured me you could of course use the TextFX->Tools->Insert Line
Numbers
menu item and totally skip the installation of the Simple Script plugin.
I must add that although not strictly necessary in this case, the Simple Script
plugin is a "must have" tool :-)

Hey przemoc,
Thanks for the idea and getting back to me.
I was thinking of using PHP, but would have to install Apache or IIS and play
with the config, all in all would take about 30 minutes to an hour to set up.
I just didn't feel like it.
AWK is an excellent idea and lends itself to other text manipulation situations
as well.
I will get back into AWK.

Hey Paulo Campioni,
I thought I'd give your idea a shot and after downloading the latest version
of Notepad++ 5.1.1 with SimpleScript 113 and 112 I receive the following error
upon opening Notepad++.

C:\Program Files\Notepad++\plugins\SimpleScript.dll
"This plugin is not compatible with current version of Notepad++."

Like I mentioned I tried version 113 and 112 of plugin.
Should I go back to the Notepad++ 5.0.3 version?
I wouldn't mind playing with your idea some.
I do enjoy Notepad++.

Okay the configuration is back at original version Notepad++ 5.0.3
Spell Check works as does new plugin choice SimpleScript with 113 latest version
installed.
I will utilize SimpleScript to see its power and or limitation comparing to
text manip with AWK and/or Perl.
Thanks to both przemoc & Paulo Campioni for your most excellent and timely

As a pre-release tester I found that it works seemlessly with Unicode Npp; I've
not encountered any crashes up to now.

The Simple Script plugin isn?t compatible with the Unicode version.
I think everything should go well if you install the ANSI version of N++.
AWK is a much more general text processing tool and if you know how to use it,
go for it.
Simple Script adds a lot of power to be used within N++ itself, freeing you
from using external tools.

Well, quoting from http://www.php.net/manual/en/features.commandline.php:
"As of version 4.3.0, PHP supports a new SAPI type (Server Application
Programming
Interface) named CLI which means Command Line Interface. As the name implies,
this SAPI type main focus is on developing shell (or desktop as well)
applications
with PHP."
So, no need to install Apache or IIS anymore (for CLI apps, of couse :-) )
