If ClearType was on, Notepad++ was slow -- as in, you'd type a letter, wait a split second, and then the letter would appear. In fact, typing *anything* into Notepad++ would peg one of the CPUs. You could mash the keyboard and then watch as the application caught up. None of the other applications I tried (Thunderbird, Opera, Word, RogSoft's Notepad+) had this problem with text entry. Every version of Notepad++ I tried (5.1.4 ANSI, 5.1.4 Unicode, 4.9.2) had this problem. It didn't seem to matter what font I was using, either. That said, I've tried this on other computers and haven't seen the issue, and I have an easy-enough workaround (turn off ClearType), but I figured I should report the bug. If your language uses the English alphabet (or something close to it: German, French, Italian, Spanish...) then it's more or less the same. Otherwise, the Unicode version should provide better support. So if you don't know which one to choose, go for the Unicode one: in the future, it will be the only one to be supported. The only reason to opt for the old ANSI version is if you want to use some plugins that were written for the ANSI version and that haven't been converted yet, but most plugins have already been updated, so it shouldn't be a problem. If you want a one-word answer, here it is: Unicode. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. It's called "Light Explorer", I think. I've never used it, so I'm not 100% sure this is the right name... But if you have a look at the various plugins, you should easily find it. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. In the Preferences dlgbox, New Document/Folder tab, there is a dropdown list through which the default language for a new document can be chosen. Click on the list, choose something else than default (or not) and click elsewhere. The list disappears completely, instead of simply closing. It had the full screen height. Clicking at the now empty place the list was drops it down again, so no functionality is lost. Clicking elsewhere again not only closes it, but hides it as before. Clicking on another ta, then back, restores the list visibility. So does closing the dialog and opening it again. This occurs using 800x600 resolution. Changing to 1024x768 causes the list to "really" drop, ie to use only the lower half of the display, and clicking elsewhere closes it as one would expect. Going back to 800x600 restores the problem. What happen if I want to delete? I was more hoping for where I can "edit" the selected columns. "Edit" meaning like I can type into it, or backspace etc... all at once in a column that's selected. I searched through the help file, and it's not supported. I wish this feature will be added in the future. tbs. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. They may have fixed, cured, improved since, but I guess the fundamental flaws remain. The first one is that most of the few apps that were available then, did NOT work AT ALL as advertised. For instance (sorry I write from my memory, but the main issues should be accurate) it said you could plug the key into your friend's PC, check your email, reply, update contacts, and so on, then shut down the key and unplug it, your friend's PC would remain totally unchanged. In facts the program assumed to do this did not even TRY to do that, not even the tiniest bit: it would just copy your email system from your PC onto the key, then from the key to another PC; which you can do with any regular USB key. I later discovered that MOST applications in the U3 system were like this, i.e. just false advertising. In addition even the unplug function did not work as advertised: always failed on XP Pro (did work on W2K) So I concur with previous posters: stay away from U3, which is beaten by PA, which in turn are more and more rendered irrelevant in some cases by natively portable applications. For example, let say I have text //tbr //tbr //tbr //tbr //tbr and I want to change it to //thebugslayer in column mode method, i have have to do following: 1. press Alt+Shift, right click top left "b", then bottom last "r" 2. press Delete 3. press Alt+Shift, right click top left "t", then bottom last "t" (forms a invisible rect) 4. press Alt+c, in the prompt dialog type in "hebugslayer" in the text box, click okay button. I think step 3 is redundant and and can be remove. and step 4 is little clumsy. If we can "edit" immediately after step 1, it's much smoother. Does anyone find this useful? Can we add in as a feature request for this? thanks, tbs ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. The scintilla edit control supports those characters for you file *contents* even for ANSI builds of Notepad++. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum.
