Press the alt-key while selecting and it will select in column mode. I agree
that this might not be convenient with large files. I'm not sure if anyone
ever found a good way to do it without the mouse. I don't think you can even
use "clone to another view" to help with this.
I also agree that find/replace might be your best option with large files if
you want to delete columns. I would use the advanced find/replace (control+r)
because it lets you enter a range of columns to operate on. That can be easier
than creating regular expressions to select the column.
If you need to cut and paste columns then you might have to put up with the
slow column block selection by mouse, or use a regular expression find/replace.
Maybe using something like Excel would be easier. Or, if the data is suitable,
MS's free Logparser can do some extraordinary things with data files from the
command line.

Yeah, don't bother wanting it.
Ever since I got ubuntu, the only thing that I use wine for is notepad++. It
works well, can't complain :)

Well, you might have found something on this if you searched the forum first.
But since you started a new thread and are so elaborate to tell the number of
lines you want to perform this on, let me warn you: column select and
replace/delete
mode is very slow when the number of lines is large.
You should consider using a simple or more complex Find/Replace action, possibly
using regular expressions. You can find examples and other threads about this
also on this forum.

Hi
I made (with AutoIt) a Notepad++ Replacer with a GUI for replacing
MS-Notepad.exe
with the N++ Launcher.

I run it under WinXP32 prof. with success, but under Vista should work, but
no garantie!
Give it a try!
How it goes:
- it extracts to temp: n++_icon, n++_logo.gif, n++launcher and setup.exe
and run the setup.exe
- it requires Adminrights! in WinXP + Vista
- if a open session of the MS-Notepad.exe excist, will close in 20 sec.
- it makes a backup from the MS-Notepad.exe in 'Windir/Notepad-backup'
- it looks where the MS-Notepad.exe stored:
WindowsDir\servicepackfiles\i386\notepad.exe
WindowsDir\source\WinXP\i386\notepad.exe
WindowsDir\notepad.exe
SystemDir\dllcache\notepad.exe
SystemDir\notepad.exe
HomeDrive\i386\notepad.exe
HomeDrive\i386\notepad.ex_
- it temporary disables Protection for MS-Notepad.exe and
replace it with the Notepad++ Launcher in given dir.
- it writes a logfile Notepad.log, where the script starts.
You can translate the GUI if you want. Post it here again, i will made than
the installer.

I'm sure there are, but there are probably more who love them. Tabs are a
principal
feature of Notepad++, but there's nothing stopping you from using the -multiInst
parameter to open every file in a new session. Perhaps a little work with
regedit
could make that the default for you. If you work it out, perhaps you could
post a FAQ about it on the Wiki, then anyone who wants to do it can do so.

Perhaps a better approach might be to try to find out why it guesses wrongly,
and try to find out what to do to get it to guess correctly. Perhaps it's
possible
to modify the file slightly before opening it?
I have to admit that I know very little about this type of file. Thanks for
providing an example - I've seen complaints about this before but had no sample
to try it on.

This might just be a WINE issue (I'm on Ubuntu), but sometimes Npp's shortcuts
get messed up and re-mapped. For example, ctrl+f will fold a level instead of
opening the find window.
The only way to solve it to restart notepad++... but has anyone else encountered
this, on windows specifically?
