I admit that my arguments are vague. The reason why I am pointing at UltraEdit
is because I think their solution shows that they indeed have been trying to
deal with the usability issue that I am claiming exits in Notepad++. Naturally,
I wouldn't suggest altering Notepad++ to suit only my needs if it is just me
who is abnormal.

Note that I agree with you that Notepad++ is dealing with the vertical scrollbar
in a technically consistent manner. My objection is only usability-related.

As a thought experiment, if Notepad++ extended the scroll range, would you then
make use of it? Would others? To find out ask some people to open a long
document
in UltraEdit and add some words after the last line and observe the vertical
position while they are editing. If the outcome is that they all are editing
the line with cursor position at the bottom of the window then my idea of
typical
user behavior is incorrect. My own editing method is scroll-type-scroll-type...
keeping last line at some distance from the bottom. But this technique is not
possible in Notepad++.

> I believe you consider it a need for a file of only one line to have
> a scroll bar of half the height of the window to allow to move that line
> to the bottom and back to the top. Does this make sense?

No, I am no suggesting this. Top position of vertical scroll bar should imply
that first line is aligned at the top. Like it is now.

Hi

I just test your plugin. Your implementation seems to be interesting (may be
better than ccompletion), nevertheless I succed in doing nothing. Can you add
some explaination about how to use your plugin.

I opened a cpp file and try all the plugin function, but nothing is working.
I don't understand what should be add in configuration.

Should I have a ctag.exe somewhere? At this time there is ctag.exe in plugin
directory because of CCompletion.
Thanks for your help

There are scripting languages that can be embedded in a project. Remobjects
has Pascal Script. If the code processing procedure produces all output in a
console then scripting it with a batch file should be easier than writing a
plugin. What could be interesting if not useful would be a command shell with
syntax highlighting similar to 4DOS and 4NT from back in the day.

If the process is another Windows program like calc, notepad, etc. then a simple
plugin that makes shell execute API calls from button clicks should be fairly
easy to do. The launched program would not be docked but the plugin that
launches
it could be docked.

I hope this is helping.

To always start with Notepad++ instead of boring MS-Editor!

Hit Start then Programs then Editor, always MS-Editor starts and people won?t
do that!
You see?

Hi Arran,

you find this feature under the menu item "TextFX".
in this menu you select "TextFX tools" and there you find the "Word Count"
option.
this counts the words, characters, lines and ... from the selected text!

Greetz
