Wow, what does this _actually_ do? It deletes to the end of the line and records
this action as a macro. Great! Can I then use this macro?

I can't argue that <Alt+Home> would be better, because normally there won't
be any text before the <Home> position. But then again, looking at the user's
request... Why record a macro for something that can be done right-away?

No, you didn't. Column mode _is_ slow.
Perhaps you can be satisfied by using the CTRL+R advanced Find/Replace dialog.
There is an edit box there where you can enter the column numbers to work on.
Whatever the empty column consists of, you can probably insert it by replace
something like (.+) with [empty-column-characters-here-without-brackets]\1 with
Reg. Expression checked.

You are wrong. You CAN search for and add newline characters.
Use the CTRL+R advanced Find/Replace dialog.
You can enter newline characters here by pressing CTRL+M or CTRL+Enter and also
tab characters by pressing CTRL+I.
In regex mode it is possible to add tabs by (re)placing \t and I believe
newlines
will also work with \r\n.
