I was using NotePad++ to keep a txt file of my workhistory everyday, which is
now 1.527MB.

Yesterday, while it was opening, the OS was unexpected shutoff, something like
power loss in a desktop. After restart the machine, my recent 2.5 months of
records are lost. :(
When using NotePad to check the file, the ending becomes pages of blanks.
When using a hex editor to check the file, it ends with pages of "00"
When using Notepad++ to check it, it become "Not responding" at the beginning
of content loss.

I don't think there is a chance to recover it. However, still post here to see
whether anybody can help to recover my data.
Thanks in advance!

You can make this yourself quite easily using "User define dialog" in the View
menu.

I looked for a MIPS one but couldn't find it, so made one which works pretty
well.
I would upload it but I can't seem to do so anywhere around here...

I always keep a backup of the complete Notepad++ directory. That way I can
always
go back to a previous version/installation/composition. It allows me to see
changes in settings (files) and also to recover from any bad new version of
any file.

Most of the .xml files are settings. You could make a(n extra) backup of those.

First of all, use your hex editor to cut off the blank/00 part and save you
file to (have) a backup file!

You might have been helped by using Notepad++'s automatic backup feature.

Thank you, Don, for this solution.

I see this thread had already 2 replies before mine, but they seem to have been
removed.
However, I wonder how you can remove something that is _not_ posted. :)

If you mean to say that the "Buffer read-only" flag isn't set anymore, you are
right.
It would be a good thing to also save this setting in the session file.

Of course, Notepad++ can't control if a file itself has been set to or cleared
from being read-only, just as it can't guarantee that the file will still exist.
Perhaps it would be also good to notify a user when a file can't be found
anymore
and ask the user if he wants to look for it and (re)load it from another
location.
