When I first started programming VBScript I missed my VS6.0 editors with colour
context. Since I didn't want to install VB6.0 just to get it, I searched in
Google and found Notepad++ as the first one in the results that was actually
free.

I was looking for the following (in order of importance):
1. Free
2. Colour context
3. Small
4. Preferably open source

I tried Notepad++ first and stopped looking. Other people I work with have since
shown me other tools that they use, but have a ton of extra features that I
don't need. Notepad++ remains easy to use and I regularly get people that I'm
showing code say, "what is that and where can I get it?"

I stick with it because it is free, light-weight and simple. Mind you, I'm still
using 4.6 because it works for me.

I forgot to add: I've since tried others that you've mentioned and they seem
to be trying too hard to be Notepad+++

P.S. It's really too bad we cannot edit our posts.

Hi all,

Is there a feature that allows previously searched strings to be remembered
in the Find/replace screen. It looks like the history is only maintained while
the seession is open and resets to blank once notepad is restarted.

If this feature is not implemented, will it be.

thanks

Brian R.

Feature: Don't expand folded code after saving a file.

It's really annoying, when I hide most of the code which I don't need
to see and after Ctrl+S is everything again expanded.

If you want the key to be Alt+J then use the upper-case ASCII code: 74.

You should be able to look at the Run menu and see your command listed with
the short-cut key. Also in Shortcut Mapper.

The easiest way to create a macro is to use the Run command (F-5): get the
command
to work, then use the Save dialog to select a key; that way you don't have to
worry about ASCII codes. However, be sure to use a key that is not already in
use (scroll through Shortcut Mapper to see what keys are in use).

C:/programfiles/notepad++ does not have spaces, so you should not need quotes.

Notepadd++ seems to work fine only when i open regular small .txt files.

However it crashes each time when i try to open text files with extentions such
.dat or .cfg or something that is not .txt and it also crashes when I open
larger
text files (1 MB or so).

Below is the kind of errors i get -

Application Error : The exception unknown software exception (0xc000000d)
occurred
in the application at location 0x004644c4.

Notepad and textpad can open the same files without any problems.

As anyone discovered a workaround for this bug? It is driving me crazy. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to replace more than one line of code at a time?

It seems like it is only possible to do one line at a time.

Hi,
When upgrading from npp 4x to 5, using the npp installer, I hit a glitch I've
not seen before on any install/upgrade before (the computer runs Win XP (home
- groan) sp3. The upgrade just doesn't "take", leaving me with a system beep
when I try to start npp. I used the npp uninstall, have tried reinstalling,
with reboots in between; still no luck.

The computer is pretty darn vanilla, with no npp problems in several years of
thoroughly enjoyable use. Can someone plz guide me as to how I might /totally/
get rid of npp so that I can start fresh?

Many thanks.
Dave

i think my xml file and bat file are correct.

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6769/aoeuaz6.jpg

as you can see my program isnt listed in the run menu. it wasnt listed in the
shortcut mapper either. why is this? does this mean my xml file is wrong? or
do i need to save a "macro" or something using notepad?

i have no idea what to type in the green oval shown in my pic. is that supposed
to link to my bat file? the python.exe or IDLE python GUI or python shell? I'm
not really sure what im looking for or where it is. none of this makes any sense
to me :(
