RegEx in N++ does not support repeats ? or {x,y}. It means we have to be
smarter
about how we use RegEx. One thing to consider is making several passes.
We all want improvements to the RegEx functionality but at the moment all we
have is what Scintilla provides.

The repetition operators or quantifiers are greedy. They will expand the match
as far as they can, and only give back if they must to satisfy the remainder
of the regex. The regex <.+> will match <EM>first</EM> in This is a
<EM>first</EM>
test.
Place a question mark after the quantifier to make it lazy. <.+?> will match
<EM> in the above string.
A better solution is to follow my advice to use the dot sparingly. Use <[^<>]+>
to quickly match an HTML tag without regard to attributes. The negated character
class is more specific than the dot, which helps the regex engine find matches
quickly.

in the latest releases (5.1.x, 5.2) the program freezes whenever i open a file
in ms-dos style (like .nfo files)
i've tried reinstalling different releases
now i'm working with 5.0 which seems to work fine
is it just for me?

I've got a similar problem running on a Vista machine, where My Documents is
on the local hard disk, but in a different location than on all prior versions
of Windows. I keep meaning to get the Explorer source code to look into the
problem, but haven't had a chance yet.

Scheme is shown as an inbuilt syntax highlighter. You're right, it does not
show up on the list of builtin styles under Styler Configurator. I don't know
what that means except that you can't customise the inbuilt style.
Can your try changing the extension of your Scheme source file to .lsp or .lisp
to see if the LISP style will apply. N++ applies styles according to the
extension
of the file it has open.
You can define your own style with the Define User Language feature but we won't
go there just yet.
Does anyone else know about the inbuilt Scheme style?
