WinSpy is your friend, and it is free.

Locate the Notepad++ window, expand the enry so as to find the subwindow of
class #3270 with "Find in folders..." as caption, right click that entry and
make it visible.

I don't have the Window manager plugin here, so I don't know if it would help
there.

A last resort would be to make another bogus search iusing the "Find in folders"
dialog again, and then collapse and delete those bogus results from the pane,
which reopened as a side effect.

Dude, did I step on your dog or something? Sorry I didn't see him.

Seriously though, I am not complaining that the program doesn't do what I want
just to hear myself whine. It is called constructive criticism. You'll note
that I didn't just say "this is bad" I also said how I thought it could
be better.

I do take the time to learn to use the product. I grant you, I've only had
it for two weeks. But in that two weeks, I've explored it pretty thoroughly
- using it as my primary editor at work. During all that exploring, I noted
some things that don't seem to work as well as they could. I'd be nothing but
a parasite if I did not *at least* come back to the forum monitored by the
developers
to let them know that I think there could be a better way to do something, or
that there is a feature missing.

If you visit www.brixoft.net and download SourceEdit, you will find an excellent
implementation of exactly what the original poster and myself are both speaking
about. It is more intuitive than the current implementation. It isn't based
on the same engine, nor is it open source, but it does demonstrate the feature.

N++ is as-good or better than SourceEdit in quite a few ways (stability (so
far), portability, plug-ins, macro handling). Not as good in others (syntax
highlighting speed, column editing, user-language styler definition.)

Just because one can find a way to do something within the tool, does not mean
it is the best way to do it. If that were the attitude taken over history,
we'd still all be using line-editors. Thankfully, awesomely talented and
generous
souls like Donho and company have graced us with a better way.

Since I find that I don't have the time to write programs outside of work, my
contribution to the project at this juncture will consist of bug reporting and
suggestions for improvement. The developers can take my suggestions, or leave
them as they choose, but it is a valid contribution none the less. Especially
since it is from the viewpoint of a new user, not an old hand.

Thank you by the way for your useful suggestions on how to get around certain
limitations in the editor. You obviously know your way around it quite well.
Had the original post been a request for help rather than a suggestion, they'd
have done the trick.

In conclusion: Chill out, I'm trying to help. What I'm offering are
suggestions,
not complaints. If I didn't like the program, I wouldn't have bothered to sign
up to the forum and offer my opinions on ways it could be improved.

Plugin -> NppExport -> Export to HTML. Then view the generated page.

If you are interested in page breaks rather, then Ctrl-P to a PDF printer. If
you don't have one insalled already, there are quite a few freely available
on the net. The pdf file will tell you where pages break.

Here is a feature request. It could take two alternative forms:

1/
When an extension is shared by several languages, like Haskell/FlashAS for .as,
but also Eiffel/Euphoria for .e and perhaps others, and a file with that
extension
is being opened, let a small dialog pop up with a dropdown list of all competing
languages for that extension. User then chooses.

2/
N++ could look for a file called say .npp.xml in the directory where the file
being opened is. This file would contain something like

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?>
<NotepadPlus>
  <Languages>
     <Languege name="Euphoria" ext=".e"/>
    </Languages>
</NotepadPlus>

but would only list nonconflicting associations to apply.
And perhaps such a per folder property file could contain other settings as
well. Creating such a file would be left to the user using his/her preferred
text editor.

I happened to be looking at the Scintilla ToDo list which comes with the source
of N++. It has an item about allowing cursor to go past EoL. When this
is implemented, N++ can add an option for this mode, and then rely on
Scintilla's
copy mechanism, which will have been extended for that purpose.

ConText has been doing this for a long time anyway.

I just upgraded my system at work and am now running Vista, where I've
encountered
a few issues regarding permissions when I'm logged in under my domain account,
but nothing really worth bothering anyone with yet.

However... unrelated to permissions -

When I do a search, then click the top of the results window to move it, every
time I get "SetWindowsHookEx(KEYBOARD) failed" and I have trouble clicking on
anything until I can end the Notepad++ process. How can I help fix this bug?

Yes, it does do it, and, as you say, in a nice way... I was thinking that
perhaps
having both concepts merged into one would be nice since they both serve the
same purpose.

Reloading the file got rid of the highlighting, but this is still a bug.

Hi Jens,

When you say:

"...If you change the sequence it my crash the HexEditor plugin or it doesn't
work anymore correctly. "

Are you saying you _did_ alter the message order and it caused HexEdit to work
incorrectly, or that you don't want it changed because it _may_ cause HexEdit
to work incorrectly?

I took a look at the beNotified for HexEdit v0.9.3 and don't see why there would
be any problems. You're using the FILEOPENED and FILECLOSED, neither of which
would be changed... I'm only recommending a change to the BEFOREOPEN
notification.

Also, while looking at the source I noted the getCurrentHScintilla() routine,
you may be interested in the change to that as outlined here:
https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=6826720
