I've encountered the same problem and also found the following issue:

the default filter used to be the same as the current file. (eg *.abc). But
when the extension is unknown it defaults to *.txt. I don't think this is
desired
behavior.

Hi,

i am trying to create a user efined language for abaqus .inp files.
the general syntax is...

***comments
**comments
*COMMANDS, commands..
numbers, numbers,....
numbers, numbers,....
****

all commands start with *
two or more consecutive *'s in a line mean comments/dummy line
and the rest of the lines are numbers separated by commas.

i need to have all the lines not starting with a * to be folded.

i am grateful for any suggestions offered

Is there any hope to see a ComparePlugin available for N++ >=5.3.1? I don't
know what the incompatibility is, but installer remove it cause of that... :)

Hello,
As the XML language is widly used and many XML files doesn't have a ".xml"
extension,
it should be cool to have an option in npp that detect that a file is a xml
one if it starts with "<?xml version="1.0" encoding=".*" ?>", and if its
extension
is not already linked to another language (I know that it's possible to link
an extension to a language)

This could be also implemented when creating a new document (useful when using
ctrl+N and paste a xml document)
Thanks

good idea. I would rather propose to make some custom on-first-line detection
rules. For ex. I personally need to maintain some files, which have .php
extension,
but are in fact in JavaScript files (with some php parsings). So it would be
nice to write something like /* JS here */ on the first line and editor would
auto-select the language accordingly

Thanks a lot. Currently, I'm taking option 1 with a little bit of option 2.

I have a keyboard macro defined to comment / uncomment one line at a time and
that's not too bad.

I noted that N++ has a 5.3 release candidate recently. Do you know if the
"saving
of find/replace info" might be in that new version? Having the ability to save
off find/replace info in a macro vastly increases their flexibility.

But then there's the "ultimate option": Dig through the source code to find
the bug myself, fix it, and recompile. And of course - get the fix back here
somehow.

I'm not walking away from the last option. I may even come back to it in my
"copious free time." And I thank you much for the detailed instructions on
how to "steal" 90% of the styler information from the existing language.

That was in fact one of my feature requests just last week I think. - "copy
a built-in language as the starting point for a user defined one."

Yes, you can manually specify this. However I have set it to the last open
directory
so it doesn't work that way. By default Notepad++ should point to the My
Documents
directory.

Menu Option:
Language -> HTML

When you comment, it will use the HTML comment style.

Language -> PHP
When you comment, it will use the PHP comment style.

This basically overrides the chosen language for the file you have open. As
you switch between the various sections of your file, you'd have to remember
to switch between the different language styler.

Notepad++ seems great. The use of Lucida Console font is good... except
that for some reason I haven't seen an editor that will let user adjust the
line spacing or the line height of the lines when this font is used.
Courier New still gives more spacing vertically so that the lines are less
cramped together. Lucida Console makes it look like it is TextMate on the
Mac, except one thing is that its vertical spacing is really narrow, making
the lines somewhat cramped together and on different editors, I eventually
have to set the font back to Courier New due to this. If Notepad++ can let
user adjust the vertical spacing or just a checkbox to have taller vertical
spacing. Thanks.

an example is: http://www.0011.com/css/lucida-font.html
