FACULTY POSITION OPEN

The  Department   of  Mechanical and   Aerospace  Engineering at  West
Virginia University, College of Engineering  and Mineral Resources, is
seeking a  RESEARCH ASSISTANT    PROFESSOR  with expertise   in  solid
mechanics,  with  emphasis on  micro-mechanics  of  composites  and/or
inhomogeneous media. A recent Ph.D. degree (or demonstrated expertise)
in a  closely related field   is required. Experience  with  numerical
modeling of material behavior  is advantageous. The candidate  will to
work   on several funded-research  projects  in  the  general field of
materials  modeling.   Salary is   commensurate  with the  candidate's
experience  and ability to  contribute  to ongoing  as well  as future
activities. A one-year appointment  is initially sought, with  renewal

STUDENT ASSISTANTSHIP (1)

The  Department   of Mechanical  and   Aerospace Engineering   at West

an opening for a RESEARCH ASSISTANT to  work on "Development of Design
Specifications for Composite  Structural Shapes." An  undergraduate or
graduate degree in Civil Engineering and background in steel-design is
required. The candidate must secure  admission to the Ph.D. program in
either  Mechanical or Civil Engineering to  qualify  for this opening.
Some background on composites  is advantageous  but not required.  The
candidate will  to  work   on  a funded-research   project,  under the

Inhomogeneous Media."  An MS  Thesis  on a  related  topic (preferably
homogenization) and background in mechanics is required. The candidate
must  secure admission to the Ph.D.  program in Mechanical Engineering
to  qualify  for   this opening. Some   background   on  composites is
advantageous but   not required. The   candidate will   to work  on  a
funded-research  project,     under  the  supervision  of    Dr.  Ever
