Below, an updated patch for the latest notmuch; this refractors the dir check
a bit, and adds the useful feature of making 'notmuch new' ignore directories
with a '.noindex'-file in them.

I just updated notmuch and now notmuch new cannot update my mail anymore... It
tells me that there are
700 files found, but tells that there's no new mail.
I did a git bisect, which tells me the first bad commit is commit
2e96464f9705be4ec772280cad71a6c9d5831e6f.

With the recent change to "database format 1" some users might decide to
rebuild their notmuch database. If so, there are some things I've
learned about Xapian that are good to know before you rebuild. Or maybe
what you read below will encourage you to rebuild your notmuch database.

Hi notmuch users,
I know that things have been fairly silent from me on both the mailing
list and the git repository lately. Hopefully that will change now.
Just yesterday I merged in my "rename-support" branch to master (it's
about 60 commits and took me two or three weeks for what I originally
working through the
backlog of mail and patches I've got. I've skimmed things and it looks
like there's some really interesting stuff in there. So thanks!
