I wonder if someone can advise what may be going wrong here when
attempting to compile the Xorg nouveau driver. autoconf configure run
through fine.
This is on a fc7-ppc
box.

Do you have the DRM compiled and installed ? Also, line 369 of nv_type.h is
not about fifo for me (nor for git head), so are you sure you're using an
unmodified git checkout ?
