Prince club in Vegas? A sure bet it's a winner

Prince is bringing purple back to Las Vegas, where he will open a
club at which he's expected to perform two nights every weekend.

Club 3121 is expected to open next month in the Rio Hotel & Casino
in a 30,000-square-foot space occupied by Club Rio. There has been
no official announcement.

"There's no definite date, but we'll know more details in about two
weeks," said Howard Jung, a concierge at the Rio, which is best
known for Penn & Teller's popular show. The 3121.com website
promises a November opening and a menu of R&B stars, including Chaka
Khan, Patti LaBelle, Floetry and such Twin Cities acts as Mint
Condition and Kip Blackshire.

Jung said that 3121, with a capacity of 1,500, will be open
Thursdays through Sundays. Thursdays will be Latin night. The place
also may have a restaurant.

This isn't Prince's first venture in the nightclub business. He co-
founded Glam Slam in 1990 in the Minneapolis warehouse district and
later opened Glam Slams in Los Angeles and Miami. The out-of-town
clubs closed, and the Minneapolis one is now called the Quest and
Prince hasn't been involved with it for years. Early on, he
occasionally performed at the Glam Slam clubs.

His Vegas club takes its name from his current CD, "3121," which was
released in March. After appearing on "Saturday Night Live" and
doing about a dozen gigs as sideman with his protégé Tamar, he was
expected to undertake a major concert tour this year but did not. He
obviously had other plans.
