ACTIVITIES SUMMARY
Toyota InfoTechnology Center conducts advanced research and development of
intelligent information processing technologies. Toyota ITC is looking for
short term contractor to assist with simulation for congestion control
algorithms for vehicular DSRC systems.

Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) is an emerging technology that
allows vehicles to communicate wirelessly with other vehicles and with
roadside devices. One DSRC channel is designated for safety communication.
DSRC uses the IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol to
arbitrate channel access. This safety communication channel is subject to
congestion which leads to frame collisions. Toyota ITC researches
congestion control algorithms, and participates in cooperative studies with
other OEMs in the VSC3 consortium. The first goal of the work is to
simulate congestion control algorithms for DSRC systems for a wide range of
cases in a network simulator (ns-3 or ns-2). This would involve writing new
code and modifying existing code in network simulator (ns-3 or ns-2) and
then writing scripts (for e.g. in Perl) to run simulations for a wide range
of scenarios. Finally, it would require to present the obtained results in
form of plots (using Matlab software). The second goal of the work is to
analyze log files collected from DSRC field experiments. This would involve
analyzing the log files (in excel format) and creating appropriate plots
(using excel software or Matlab). Conducting new DSRC laboratory or field
experiments might also be required.

CONTRACT PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Working with other members of the team, the contractor is expected to take
part in the following activities:
1. Understand existing code in network simulator (ns-3 or ns-2)
2. Implement new functions in network simulator (ns-3 or ns-2) if required
3. Write scripts to run simulations for a wide range of scenarios
4. Analyze performance results of DSRC field test
5. Help in conducting new DSRC laboratory and field test (training would be
provided)
6. Document results appropriately for internal reports and publication.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education: B.S./M.S. Degree Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
or equivalent
2. Experience working with C++, Matlab, MS Office (required)
3. Experience working with ns-3 or ns-2 simulator (strongly desired)
4. Experience with 802.11 MAC and communication protocol stack, SUMO
simulator (preferred)
5. Strong practical and problem-solving skills
6. Strong oral and written communication skills

ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS
1. Position available at our Mountain View, CA office.
2. Applicants *must* already have the ability/authorization to work in the
USA (Toyota ITC will not provide VISA support).
