[NSP] Pipers' Gathering 2006 December Update

2006-12-05 Thread Mark Stayton
Friends of the Pipers' Gathering,

The 2007 Pipers' Gathering will be held from August 10th through August
13th, 2007 (Friday through Monday), at the Killington Grand Hotel in
Killington, VT. The Board of Directors is busy planning another memorable
event for 2007, and we'll be announcing more details in the coming months.
In the meantime, we have a few announcements to close out the 2006 season.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD

After eight years of keeping The Pipers' Gathering on solid financial
ground as our Treasurer, Steve Bliven is passing the torch to Mark
Stayton. Steve has been on the Board of Directors since the beginning of
The Pipers' Gathering, Inc. in 1998 (for the 1999 Gathering). He has worn
many hats during that time, and many of you will recognize him from his
excellent performances as Master of Ceremonies during the previous two
years' concerts. Steve first rose to general fame with his stirring
fund-rasing speeches, pleading (very successfully) for donations. "What
is the greatest nation in the world? DO-NATION!"

We wish to thank Steve for his years of hard work and brilliant guidance
in every aspect of The Pipers' Gathering. He will be sorely missed as a
Guiding Light.

UPPER POTOMAC PIPERS' WEEKEND

As part of our charter to promote the music and playing of bagpipes, we're
helping to spread the word about a new Pipers' Weekend in the mid-Atlantic
region.

The Upper Potomac Pipers' Weekend will be held January 5-7, 2007 at the
Historic Hilltop House Hotel in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, located
just 55 miles west of Washington DC and Baltimore. The instructors will be
Jerry O'Sullivan (Uilleann pipes), Bob Mitchell (Scottish smallpipes), Ian
Lawther (Northumbrian smallpipes), Chris Norman (flute) and John Knowles
(fiddle).

More information about the event including lodging, costs, and class
schedules is available at:

SHOP "THE GATHERING" THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

Do you need that perfect gift for a piper, or someone who enjoys bagpipes,
or someone who should be introduced to bagpipes? Please consider a gift
of our new ""Live at Killington"" CD or other Pipers' Gathering
merchandise. Ordering information can be found online at

THE TAX MAN COMETH

It costs well over $20,000 to bring you the Pipers' Gathering weekend each
year, of which only a portion is covered by registration fees. The
balance is raised through grants, donations, sales of T-shirts, CDs, etc.
Did I say donations? The Pipers' Gathering is a registered non-profit
organization, and a US tax receipt is issued for all donations received.
2006 is fast drawing to a close, and with it your opportunity to claim
something back from Uncle Sam when you file your 2006 income tax return.
Please consider a donation The Pipers' Gathering to help ensure that one
of your favorite weekends of the year will still be there for you in the
future.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank once again the Vermont
Arts Council for their generous
support in recent years. If you have any connections to other companies
or organizations which might be willing and able to help preserve and
promote folk and traditional bagpiping, please contact us and we will
coordinate with supporting materials.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS WELCOME!

Please feel free to write any time with suggestions for what (or who) you
would like to see at the Pipers' Gathering. Every year we send a survey
to the participants following the event, but we'd also like to hear from
those who have not attended about what would make the weekend more
attractive to you.

The Pipers' Gathering, Inc., presenter of The Pipers' Gathering, is
registered as a non-profit corporation in the State of Vermont and is
recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit
organization under the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the federal tax
code. Tax-deductible contributions are gratefully accepted by Mark
Stayton, Treasurer, The Pipers' Gathering, Inc., 97 N. 3rd Ave.,
Royersford PA 19468.

Thank you for your continued interest and support,

The Board of Directors of The Pipers' Gathering, Inc.:
  Rick Damon, Chairman
  Mark Stayton, Treasurer
  Dawn Littlepage, Secretary
