[NSP] Re: Ebay nsp book

The second photo provided in the ebay listing has the printed title page
with Fenwick as the author. Why does it have a hand written top cover with
Cocks and the author?

 Hello,
I was going to lurk on this list a little longer before raising my head
over the parapet, but wonder if you've noticed the copy of the nsp
book, described as by Fenwick, but with W A Cocks' name on the cover
currently on ebay.co.uk due to go at about 8.pm UK time, about 3 hours.

or item no. 110217410878 if you prefer.

I apologise if you're a member of this list have already bid... I've
 just raised the potential competition.

I've already bought one book today... happy bidding if you do!

 Best wishes,
 Rihcard.

DCMS to launch arts survey

The DCMS is to launch its first national survey of amateur arts groups in
England on 1 February.
Groups of voluntary and amateur participants in music, dance, literature,
visual arts and theatre, are being encouraged to fill out the short
questionnaire by 29 February.
Culture minister Margaret Hodge said: The arts are a really important part
of so many people's lives. Taking part in local voluntary arts groups is
rewarding, fascinating and fun and this survey is the first step to connect
with those involved.
Over 70 per cent of people in England take part in artistic activities in
all their many and varied forms, but for too long, local arts groups have
not been fully recognised as an important part of our thriving arts scene.
This survey will try to map voluntary and amateur arts group and look at
how they are supported and how more people could be encouraged to get
involved.
The results will be published in the summer.

This is, as someone has already said, the 1931 edition. Its also,
judging by the second photo, a photocopy, since the original is A5
portrait or thereabouts, and the photo displays 2 pages of the
original.

If someone can decipher the signature in the bottom R. H. corner of
the first photo, it might be possible to date it.

Anyone wishing for a scanned copy of this edition can have one, at
rather less than half the current high bid + carriage at cost.

If enough people want one we'll do a facsimile of it, but the
information is already available in print in the facsimile of the
original edition, available from NPS booksales (yes, OK, me!) as part
of the 4 volume set of the C19 transactions of the NSPS, for which
the total price is also less than the high bid on ebay.

Caveat emptor should be the watchword on ebay..

[NSP] Re: Pipers in the Netherlands ?

2008-01-29 Thread Paul Gretton

There is a very good player in Leeuwarden called Gerrit de Vries, whose
playing would be an excellent advert for the instrument. I don't feel I
can publish Gerrit's contact details here but if the fellow in Alkmaar likes
to phone me, I can pass them on to him. Leeuwarden is easy to get to from
Alkmaar.

Evening all - I've had an e-mail from someone in the Netherlands
(Alkmaar) who wants to find out if the NSP is an instrument for them.

Is there anybody in the locality I could put them in touch with?

thanks

Rob
