[NSP] Re: key springing.
Having been thoroughly negative, if someone else can get a program going (the use of modes in Border music, Matt? grin), I'll attend if at all possible. I'll give it some thought. My own disincentive for doing anything much there is that I don't want to miss the Border Ballad comp and workshop - if you think piping is an obsession, try ballads! -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

There are 54 NPS members in Scotland, though not all of them are nsp players, a few only play Border pipes of various types. That's Shetland, right down to Galloway. [NSP] Re: nsp'ers in scotland
Bob, I've been back in Scotland (East Kilbride) for the past 2 years and some months ago re-activated my regular practice which had lapsed during five years in Wales when other priorities intervened. I'm a piper only in the sense that I know how to play individual notes in sequence, not in terms of facility or dexterity. When I lived in Portobello I occasionally managed to make a monthly session hosted by Graham Dixon in East Lothian -- I don't know if it is still meeting. You could do what I did once some years ago and go through the Members' List and contact pipers in your area asking if anyone would like to play John Clifford East Kilbride OK. Can we establish if there are any other players in Scotland then? I'm in Perth although I guess I cant be described as a player(yet). [NSP] Open competition tunes
Hi, Does anyone have a list of the open tunes and the year they were used for competition (where) going back 50 years ? I asked Julia maybe 15 years ago but she didn't have time to follow up on it. She mentioned that she had some in abc so if they exist I would most appreciate it Dave Singleton To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html

Not all competitions had set tunes, and even for those that did, I think there's unlikely to be a continuous record. I doubt if there's even a record of whether they had set tunes or not at different venues. Finding the info for the NPS comps would entail reading through the last 50 years of minutes and seeing how many years the discussions include a record of set tunes. Free choice comps would be down to individuals who've jotted this info down pooling their resources to get some sort of record, which is a tall order. But if anyone wants to take it on.. Hi Julia, don't worry too much -- I only just remembered that I asked 15 years ago !!! I would like to get some ideas of the set tunes e.g the set tune for the open class NSP soc 1993 was Scott Skinner's compliments to Dr McDonald - so if it's a no go ok but if there are any memories out there it would be mighty appreciated Dave Julia Say wrote: On 5 Apr 2010, Dave S wrote: Does anyone have a list of the open tunes and the year they were used for competition (where) going back 50 years ? Julia, What was set in a competition 15 years ago may no longer be of as much interest as it was then, and is surely going to be a pain to retrieve. But is there a log of what non-set tunes people have actually won with more recently? John -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
