[NSP] Re: December TOTM
Hello All Thought I'd give these a go - it's at least 35 years since I've played these but the first is certainly wintry to qualify as a TOTM in my view. I've no idea what the second tune is but expect Matt and others know. The set by Baty (which is gradually moving into Robb possession) and his grandfather's Robert Reid set which speaks for itself. I suggest we pick a tune we all want to play and then combine it with one or more other tunes, as suggested by Barry Say. The primary tune would be one we all agree on, and the secondary tunes would be personal choices. The primary tune wouldn't have to be played first. As always, fun is the goal. To get the ball rolling, here are some tunes with reference to winter: "Winter Night Schottische" Kerr 2 "The Winter Wren" (completely self serving) in Julia's forthcoming NPS book "New Christenmiss Day" #259 THE GREAT NORTHERN TUNE BOOK "My Lodging is on the Cold, Cold Ground" Yellow Book "Jack Frost" Green Book There are many more obvious and better choices. Shame we weren't quite in tune!-compared to the chanters in the Wild Hills video-but interesting how the chanters begin to attune further on in a set.!? -Original Message- From: lute-...@cs.dartmouth.edu [mailto:lute-...@cs.dartmouth.edu] On Behalf Of Matt Seattle Sent: 23 November 2011 13:54 To: Dartmouth NPS Subject: [NSP] Re: December TOTM The obvious topic is tunes with a reference to the season (winter, soltice, Christmas, Hogmany, New Year).
