I have always assumed that it referred to the Northumbrian musician Tich
Richardson who was in The Boys of the Lough with his brother Dave
Richardson (composer of Calliope House). Tich died at a young age - b
think in a car accident.

I think it was Tich Richardson, guitarist with Boys of the Lough who was
brother to Dave Richardson ('Calliope House') who is still in the band.
Tich was killed in a car accident in Northumberland in 1983(?).
