Thank you, Margaret, and the others who have sent me information and
suggestions off the NG.
Here's an update if anyone is interested. Sgurr of Eigg turns out to be a
composition of Iain Peterson who had a Scottish dance band as well. Iain is
listed as a fiddler and piper on the electronic
On a DVD given to us by Chris Gregg of the NPS Anniversary Concert one
of the many excellent pieces of music was a tune performed by the
Oxford branch. There's just the one tune on the DVD, so I'd guess the
group performed others as well, but if anyone can guess which tune I'm
I agree completely with Adrian. I too will not accept any cups, medals,
trophies or sleep-over offers from some politition. I urge all other trophy
hunters, um, I mean Society members to do the same. For many years now I have
NOT been collecting cups, medals and trophies, but I had no idea
Hi Wayne,
Thanks for shepherding this news group. It's been a source of pleasure and
insight for years. It's done more me and my piping than any other form of
written communication.
I don't know if I'll stay on or not. If we get back to discussing pipes and
pipe music I'll stay on, but
Neil Smith kindly sent me an email, but my attempts to respond have
been sent back as undeliverable. Neil, you can email me at

How nostalgic I am for those halcyon days of blissful ignorance when the gods
of the NPS did not cast thunder bolts down from Mt. Olympus on this humble
little village of a newsgroup, but rather busied themselves ordering silver
badges of office. Pr'haps bright Phebus will shine again upon

Does ivory deliver a different tone than ABW or other woods
traditionally used for NSP? Don't get the wrong idea, I'm all for

I think Colin's contribution and reputation is firmly established. The fact
that every time a bit of nastiness appears on this newsgroup someone feels the
need to restate it begs several impolitic questions. Perhaps we need a Love
Colin news group?
As for the NPS, your reputation also speaks
A. That's great! What is the last tune in the set, and isn't that last
tune a classic example of the rant rhythm?
Thanks for putting that up, Anthony.

To quote p. 85 of THE CLOUGH FAMILY book: Thomas Todd, an almost exact

become available via FARNE or some other entity.

Perhaps we should do away with names altogether? We could come with an
appropriate symbol, perhaps something from the Lindesfarne Gospels, by which
our pipes would be known. In conversation we would refer to them as the pipes
formerly known as Northumbrian Smallpipes. The NPS would have to
