[NSP] NPS competition results

2012-10-20 Thread Julia Say
I have posted the results of these on the NPS forum at:

http://www.northumbrianpipers.org.uk/pipersforum/index.php

It is particularly disappointing that after all the discussion on this list a
few
years back, and the expansion of the overseas playing classes as a result, this
year there were no overseas entries at all.

I hope this is the full list. Lack of placings implies no further entries
unless
otherwise stated.

Overseas beginners nsp: 1. Christian Crowley (USA), 2 Bridget Dodds (NZ), 3
Susan
Buxeda (NZ) 5 entries

Overseas intermediate nsp: 1. Colin McNaught (USA), 2 Chris Gregg (Canada)

Overseas open nsp: 1. Ian Lawther (USA), 2. Peter Galvin (NZ)

Overseas Border pipes beginners: 1. Helen Capes (NZ)

There were no entries in the BP overseas Open class - c'mon youall - you wanted
all
these comp classes!!

Overseas Duet: 1. Colin & Cheryl McNaught (USA), 2. Helen Capes & Peter Galvin
(NZ)

The judge for the above classes was Chris Evans

Tune composition: 1. Julia Say "The Bricklayer's Rant", 2. Richard York "The
Grass
Horse", 3. John Hazlehurst "Captain Jones's Escapade".
16 entries from 9 different composers

Composition of variations: 1. Julia Say "Buttered Peas"

The judge for these two classes was Roy Hugman.

Adjudication notes, where available, will be sent to all competitors in the
above
classes as soon as possible, along with the relevant plaques and certificates
etc
for those who weren't there on the day.

The placed tunes will all be in the annual NPS magazine: the winner of the
composition class can be found on..ermy Facebook page, and I am chasing
up
the dots for the 2nd and 3rd place, which I haven't seen yet. I'll get them up
somewhere too.

Playing classes on Sat 16:

Novice: 1. Nigel Potter, 2. Adam Bolam-Peel (3 entries, 1 chose to retire)
Junior: 1. Chloe Corrigan
Beginners: 1. Dorothy Cragg, 2. Helene Moelo, 3. Adam Bolam-Peel

Open: 1. Ann Sessoms, 2. Julia Say, 3. Ina Gilchrist

Smallpipes duet:
1. Ann Sessoms & Gill Sergeant, 2. Ian & Hilary Richardson, 3. Ina Gilchrist &
Helene Moelo

These classes were all judged by Anthony Robb

There were no mixed duets or groups, no Border pipers, and no pipemaking
entries,
which was disappointing.

I hope this is of interest to pipers, whether NPS members or not.

2006-10-22 Thread Julia Say
For those overseas competitors on the edge of their seats, and the
otherwise terminally curious:

Overseas Smallpipes:
1a Beginners: 1. Sam Rutter (NZ) 2. Karl Baker (NZ)
1b Intermediate:1. Nicole Buxeda (NZ) 2. Peter Dyson (USA) 3. Peter
Galvin (NZ) (4 entries)
1c Open:1. Helen Capes (NZ) 2. Louisa Kelly (NZ) 3. Peter Dyson
(USA)

No overseas Border pipe entries

16. Overseas duet: 1. Helen Capes & Nicole Buxeda (NZ)
2. Peter Dyson & Gail Gibbard (USA)
3. Val Smith & Helen Capes (NZ)
1 entry in this class had to be disallowed as there were more than
two players on the recording - it is a duet class not an ensemble.

Class 3 Composition of original tune
1. Julia Say 2. Hilary de Vries 3. Julia Say
8 entries, 6 composers

No composition of variations entries

UK playing classes

Novice: 1. Stephen Wassell 2. Daphne Briggs
Beginners: 1. Peter Dunn 2. Daphne Briggs
Senior Starters: 1. Daphne Briggs
Intermediate: 1. Stephen Douglass 2. Boris Hessenauer 3. Peter Dunn
(5 entries)
Advanced: 1. Boris Hessenauer 2. Jessica Lamb 3. Steve Barwick
Open: 1. Malcolm Sergeant 2. Boris Hessenauer
Border pipes Open; 1. Matt Seattle
Pipemaking: 1. Alan Bailey

There were no junior, duet or ensemble entries, which was
disappointing. There were no disqualifications so missing placings
above means no further competitors.

Plaques, certificates and comments will be sent out asap (NZ, all
yours will go to Helen!) as will comment sheets on all the
composition entries.

Thanks to competitors for entering, and hope this is of interest.
