Proper boozer. No TAB facilities but there's a big TAB round the corner on
Harris Street, and the Quarryman's is just a short stroll away.

Taphouse is great, but you get alot of those Swan supporting types in there
on a match day.

Thanks

If it's a top afternoon session pub you want, I don't reckon you can go past
the Lord Wolseley in Ultimo. The following write up from Time Out makes says
it all:

"This is one of Sydney's great Aussie pubs. You won't see schmiddies here,
nor will you see any of the other malarkey that's snuck its way into our
town's establishments. No change on those stupid little plates, bottled
water instead of tap, dumb cocktails, beers poured in one pour, lines on the
wine glasses. This bar is everything those other renta-bars aren't. They
serve the best Toohey's Old in Sydney (their taps are surgically clean so
you'll never get that bitter taste - it's always crisp, sweet and clean and
poured in two pours, no less) and there are little plaques on the bar
commemorating all the past drinkers who've gone to that great pub in the
sky. The beer garden is a couple of upturned kegs and benches in the
adjoining park where ex-coppers, wharfies, nanas and fishermen alike come to
sit back with a beer, take in the afternoon delights and shoot the breeze.
There's a restaurant on the side (Violante's) but we go for the schooners
and a pie from Hannah's (the maker of Harry's pies) down the road. Sitting
on the corner of one of the most beautiful streets in town with a little
church on one side of the road, and park and pub on the other, is one of
life's great joys. Kids skate and cycle up and down the street with ratty
old dogs on rope leashes. In an age of paint-by-number pubs (is there a shop
that solely sells refurbed pub interiors flat packed complete with dizzy bar
wenches and blondes drinking Breezers?) this one stands like a beacon. Good
drinking the way it should be - unpretentious and conducted on a park bench"

Its not as easy as a central city venue but the light rail from Central gets
you pretty close and in my opinion, it's well worth the effort.

Thanks

Matt

RE: [NSWolves: 8508] August meeting

2013-07-04 Thread Rog & Rita
Matt you've shown you're a man of impeccable taste with your choice of
Wolves and good beers.

Perhaps you could suggest a venue for the meeting.

August 3rd works for me.

Despite other people questioning the point, I still have an appetite to
support Wolves. I definitely have an appetite for beer, and I find the 2
combine quite well.

Hello Roger,

The 3rd August is okay for me at the moment. Whatever Pub you want to meet
at?

Cheers

Paul.

Are we on for the 3rd?

Is it in a pub with drinkable beer and a TAB?
